Some people say I'm self-obsessed but that's enough about them.

The combination of a camera with RAW, and fingerprint recognition, makes this an ideal law enforcement tool. Great for recording demonstrations. A phone for Big Brother.

This 'Leica' mobile camera setup is interesting...

Will it cost less or more than a superb camera?

Around £600, so less than an M246 or M262, but more than a IIIf. Only the Huawei has a built in flash, although the pothers will sync and external unit.

Actually, with that perspective I think I'd choose the IIIf over a new phone

Exactly.  Phone manufacturers, like Dyson, have raised the expectation of what certain devices should cost.

Dyson have made it totally acceptable to stick a £300 price tag on a "hoover", basically a £59.99 item if ever there was one.

Likewise the Apple showroom isn't full of people fondling iPhones exclaiming, "How f***ing much? Are you taking the piss?"
Some people say I'm self-obsessed but that's enough about them.

Yesterday I bought a Leica camera for well under £200. It's an MDa, so between 40 and 45 years old, no viewfinder and takes M mount lenses. They were originally built as scientific and technical cameras.

Image from Wiki...ia

It came with a beautiful Leitz 3.5cm clip on viewfinder - as seen here on an M3 - which is lovely to look through

Tonight I took an hour's perambulation with the camera, having attached my Zeiss 25 and matching viewfinder and enjoyed shooting a roll of HP5, sunny16 (adjusted) style and scale/zone focusing. The camera is really smooth and a joy to use and has already given me more fun than any smartphone.

Save your money, buy an MDa;)

Thanks. It's really nice to use too.

I developed the first roll made a couple of very quick (digital - look for the misfeeds on the leading edges of some...) prints from the first 12 shots and scanned the prints - would have been better using the scan as the print scans are rubbish, but here goes. Just trust me that the prints look nice and the scans make everything look blown out and too contrasty...

and by way of something different, I've been playing with a Yashica Electro 35MC scale focus pocketable camera, so here's one from that - same caveats apply
