Nice diffuser! Might try similar using an ovaltine tub. Perhaps rather than putting the flash in at the end, cut it at an angle, so the diffuser slopes down towards the lens?

Yes, I see what you mean. I might try that.

Thee most popular item to repurpose as a macro flash diffuser seems to be a Pringles can.

Pingu & I went hunting Odonata today. Bloody hard to capture, they won't keep still!

A common red soldier beetle. Loads of them about yesterday evening. This was one of the few which wasn't engaged in amorous activities.

A small orgy of red soldier beetles.

Including a voyeur.

There was also a voyeur with a camera.

A male Beautiful Demoiselle this morning. It kept flying off, but nearly always flew back to the same place and adopted the same pose. Which was nice, if you were trying to photograph him.

Thanks Andy.

Yesterday I came across this evil-looking beastie. Googling for 'insect with long spike on its back' eventually revealed it to be a parasitoid wasp, a female gasteruption jaculator. She uses her ridiculously long ovipositor to penetrate nests of solitary bees and lay her eggs there. The eggs hatch and eat the bee grubs.

Snailzilla, Oban

Dragonflies on Islay, at Finlaggan - Golden Ringed Dragonfly, and not sure on the next one, vagrant darter or ruddy darter (more likely)

And another, female golden ringed dragonfly, ovipositing in a burn on Jura

Rescued this little lady from the garden today. Not the first time - they can get their heads through the mesh but get stuck at the wings

In my garden this afternoon. There's something hanging out of its jaws.

5 minutes previously there was more of the something
