Hi All,

1/3rd Early Bird Discount!! (Register before 16th May)

I’m a freelance cycle consultant and currently working with The Prostate Cancer Charity to help promote their Tour Rides. Last year was a brilliant year with some outstanding routes and YOGI had an amazing turnout for the Somerset - Devon ride. There is something very special about riding the same route as the Pro’s do on the Tour of Britain.

I hope to post lots of info as it all emerges and if you have any questions feel free to ask here.

Most importantly at the moment is the Early Bird Discount of 1/3 off if you register before 16th May!!!

There is an ever bigger choice of rides this year, so have a good look here www.tourride.co.uk

I’m going to be riding the Pro Ride in Wales, a real stunning route running from castle to castle! I think that this route will be best placed for you all, so hopefully see as many as possible there.

Okay, that’s it for now....don’t miss the early bird discount!

Just a quick reminder that the Early Bird Offer of 33% discount ends in 5 days time on Monday 16th May. It’s a BIG discount and so not one to miss!

I’ve entered the Pro Ride in Wales Tour Ride - The Rides - Wales which is a real corker of a sportive with almost 3,000m of height gain  :)  If that’s a bit much check out the Challenge Ride.

If you have any questions just post them here.

Thanks, Alistair

Good to see there are chips for the riders. Curry or brown sauce?
It is simpler than it looks.

Curry makes you go faster!!  ;D

Hi All,

I’m up in Wales this Thursday evening to watch Round 2 of the Halfords Tour Series in Aberystwyth and so I’m going to take the opportunity of checking out in detail the Tour Ride Route in Wales (which I’ve already signed up for) from Welshpool Castle to Caerphilly Castle on Friday.

I’ll post as much info here later this week, but feel free to ask any questions that you have about the route.
Tour Ride - The Rides - Wales
It would be great to see some large groups from clubs; I’ve heard that Chippenham Wheelers are putting in a number of riders.......... anyone else part of a group?

Hey All,
I went up to watch Round 2 of the Halfords Tour Series in Aberystwyth, where the gale force winds were hammering the riders (brave guys) and I was a tad unsure how the next day was going to be, as I hoping to complete the Tour Ride route in Wales.

How luck were we! We got to Welshpool and somehow managed to dodge the rain all day and had an excellent time with Yanto Barker and Chris Sidwells. Just between us, Chris is hoping to publish an article on 16th June in Cycling Weekly (actually spread the news, it should have some great pics)  ;D

It is such a scenic route, initially in the Severn Valley and then winding its way to Builth Wells. After Brecon the road is breathtaking, in more ways than one, as it climbs up Glyn Tarell, over the Brecon Beacons and then descends passed the reservoirs and down into Caerphilly with the finish right next to the castle.

I’m up for the Dragon Ride this weekend, but I have to say, I’m soooooooooo looking forward to the Tour Ride in Wales and cycling it with so many riders!

Hey All,
I was asked in another forum about how the Dragon Ride compared with the Tour Ride in Wales and I hope the following helps a bit  :)

Well there are quite a lot of similarities, I guess, the countryside the flow of the roads and the way the way that the mountains are crossed. The Wiggle Dragon Ride this year was considered to be harder than last. I completed the Medio ride due to other commitments and so can’t make a direct comparison, however the stats will be quite similar. I’ve set out a few details about the Tour Ride below, just my thoughts, so don’t totally hold me to the detail. I think it will prove to be a very satisfying ride and I always love a linear route, it’s a real journey as well as a challenge!

The start is pretty level with the odd bump here and there and stays like that until you get to Newtown/Y Drenewydd. You’re then climbing for about 7 miles or so at an average gradient of 4%, so easy enough to just turn the pedals, until you reach the highest point at 370m (Gwynant). After that you’re losing height for about 35 miles with the usual bumps/hills again to keep the legs warm. For the Pro Ride, Brecon is reached at about 70 mile mark and from here I think the road is a real peach, nice steady climbing, again averaging about 4% and stunning views as you wind your way through the national park. Once you’ve got to the Storey Arms Centre you can let gravity take over, well almost, those short sharp little hills still keep cropping up a bit, but not too much, okay the road around Caephilly Common is a bit of a sting in the tail, just to wake up those leg muscles again, before a spectacular finishing backdrop around the castle.

Here we go then, the Grand Depart this Saturday of the TdF! How about signing up for a leg of our ToB? One of the most challenging stages will be stage 4, Welshpool to Caerphilly on 14th September, why not ride it before the Pro’s do, full details here: Tour Ride - The Rides - Wales maps, gpx and full details are on the website.

It’s a brilliant linear route, a real tour stage and helpfully, transfers can be booked if you need them. See you there!
