Yes it did come as a real surprise.

On another Archers topic, why does Jude (Pip's boyfriend) sound about 50 years old? I know that he is meant to be older than her but not that much older - it sounds like a more senior actor trying to be cool and/or the character of Jude is a bit of a dickhead.

Yeah, a real shocker!  It came on as I was driving to work, and I nearly made myself late hanging on for the end.

Great episode - for once I actually listened rather than just had it on.  For me, The Archers is more of a soothing background to pottering at home than it is entertainment.  That's not to say I don't like it - I just don't see it the way I see any other kind of drama.

Yes, that was a shocker.  I had no idea.  Heard it while at work the night before, then again yesterday afternoon.  Well handled, though, I think.

I missed it. Was it a 'drive by' shooting?

The one that gets me is Jezzer.

What on earth is his accent supposed to be? It's even more inconsistent than Russell Crowe's Robin Hood. I was surprised to discover that the actor who plays him is genuinely Scottish.

Well I was convinced  :-[

Oh and another thing: Matt sounds so much younger than Marion.

Who's Marion?  Do you mean Lillian?

Re-  Wowbagger's hidden comment re- closing music. Didn't there used to be the 'Doom' version of the signature tune, saved for momentous closing events or cliffhangers?  I specifically remember it following a strangled 'Arrgh' from Tom Forrrest when he was attacked by what was supposed to be the Ambridge hob-hound, which which turned out, several episodes later,  to be nothing more than a lynx.  Unless I've completely got it wrong it consisted of a few bars of dramatic chords before giving segue-ing into the usual bouncy tumty-tum-ti-tum-tu-tum...

To me it's always sounded quite consistent, just bloody strange. I too am amazed if the actor speaks like that normally.

This will probably be another example of the Grossman phenomenon - we all thought Loyd was unique, but apparently his entire home-town talk like that!

Lillian was born 8th July 1947. Matt's exact age doesn't seem to have been made public.

It's consistent in that he pronounces the same word the same way every time, but there's no internal consistency - he employs a wider range of phonemes than I thought it was humanly possible to produce.

Yes, there was, but The Beetle (1) has decreed it shall not be heard again. And We Don't Do Melodrama on The Archers either.

1  The Editor is Vanessa Whitburn. Can you see why she's called The Beetle?  Or more often "The Beetle Must Go".

No.  I'm turning over the words dung, stag,  Colorado, scarab and antrobus in my mind but none of them seem to fit.

I'd forgotten about her. Didn't she get packed off to the Laurels, ie where Jack Woolley is now? How come Peggy hasn't mentioned seeing her there?
