Huawei OS anyone?

Thanks largely to US policy, there's a very good chance Huawei will produce its own OS sans Google:

Huawei has reiterated its warnings to the U.S. government and Google that the time is fast running out for a return to business as usual, that once the company launches an alternative operating system, there will be no turning back. The implications for the U.S., the company says, will be stark. If Huawei is forced to “resort to alternatives” to Google, CEO Ren Zhengfei told CNN, if a Plan B gains momentum, returning to previous versions of its OS and software will become less likely. And we know that any return would, at best, be in parallel with the newer alternatives. At issue is the loss of Google—the theme of the blacklist.

They are probably the only company in the world with the slightest chance of winning at the game and China is the only host country.

Personally I am not tribal about it, I have a Huawei phone, Windows laptop and Apple tablet.  I just want them to remain on speaking terms but this could be a pivotal development.

I suspect there's more to this than is being given away.
i.e. if Huawei do create their own OS, then it's not just going to be Huawei using it; and not necessarily through choice either.

Someone at Huawei tried to recruit me the other day. It's like when the Russians used to recruit people in the 1970s isn't it?

Apparently it is designed to be used on all sorts of devices, not just phone/tablets. eg smart TVs, speakers, watches.

They claim it will be open source, which could allow other companies to use it. Though depends on the details of the licencing etc.
Also suggestions it will be compatible with Android apps, could make it a lot more useful.
