Do you people have no sense of tradition?  You're not supposed to watch Carry On films until 2am on New Year's Day.

Warriors of Heaven and Earth. Chinese western set in western China. Romp. Swords, bandits, rockets, things that go voomf, delightfully bad baddies and good goodies.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

Do you mind if I smoke ...

Overall I vote for the Khyber because of all the silly names and taking the piss out of simple minded British Empire patriotism.

It'll be banned one day because of the brownface, I expect.

Watched the the best ever Carry On film, for the umpteenth time.  Never fails to amuse

The Dining Scene (under fire) may be my favourite comedy scene ever.

But do you think it's better than Screaming? I'm not sure ...
I refer to the dining scene regularly. In fact, the pictures of Johnson and staff 'working late' in the garden of no 10 was my most recent opportunity.

But Screaming is the better film, by far, imo.
What's so funny about peace, love and understanding?

Can't remember which one it was in but the character name I remeber most is Musapha Leek probably follow that camel?

I'd need to rewatch but Khyber certainly has the final scenes.

I might re-watch Monte Carlo or Bust to see Peter Cook and Dudley Moor as British officers from the empire.
(with Terry Thomas and Eric Sykes on top form too)

David Tennant in "..80 Days" (a current BBC television programme) is totally nailing the crazy English courageous twit role.

I think he has a future in Carry On films.

Dudley Moor
... would be an excellent comedy character name.  (A keen hill-walker from the Black Country perhaps?)

The King's Man. Very odd, a complete tonal mess. It's like they wanted to make it in the goofy alt-Bond style of the two predecessors but bottled out and made a fairly dull – and in a few places, quite preachy – action caper with a couple of scenes that felt like they were from an entirely different movie. Also far too long. I wouldn't bother, if you liked the predecessors – which were OK popcorn fodder – you're going for fifteen minutes of what you expected and about two hours of forgettable action capering. Credit to the cast though, who were good, and soldiered through the wavering tone of the movie.

"Don't look up". I quite enjoyed this. All far too believable.

Whatched this last night.  While completely unsubtle it was less cringeworthy-slapstick than I anticipated, mildly funny and wholly depressing.  I assume it's getting such bad reviews because the reviews are written by journalists.

Watched it just now. Found it a bit dull overall. Plenty of decently funny and/or enjoyable moments but could easily have been forty five minutes, if not a full hour, shorter and not really have lost anything.

Shame.

But yes, far too believable.

I've come to expect that all new films are about 45 minutes too long.  When you're watching at home on your fucking big television™ you can pause whenever you want for a bladder-break.

Minky has passed into our family argot, as I expect it has with you.  It's emphasised by the fact that there is a firm called Minky, which makes cleaning materials, only 50 yards from our house!

The Act of Killing

I've known about this film since its release in 2013, but have resisted seeing it up until now.  Watching it, and recognising many of the locations from a stay in Northern Sumatra in '94, and recognising if not the actual people involved but certainly their peers is eerie beyond comfort.

It is a very difficult film to watch but it is absolutely remarkable.

The Lost Daughter.  Not bad.  I wanted to see Gainsbourg (vie héroïque) again but Netflix has dumped it.

Matrix Ressurection. It probably deserves the bad reviews and I went in with low expectations. To be fair, there are seeds of a good movie in the first half which if they'd let take root and grow could have made for an excellent off-kilter reprise. But then it pivots into the usual action territory and it's a bit of a rehash. There are some good set-pieces, admittedly, but there's nothing behind them and whereas the original did them with a unique and now much-copied if rarely rivalled style, this time around rather than creating something new, it's copying itself.

Really a lost opportunity and a reminder that the big studios simply won't take chances and probably wouldn't make the Matrix now.

I'm putting more of the blame on Lana Wachowski and not so much the studio. I think this was a vanity project (She even added her wife, with zero previous credits, as exec producer).
It's poorly lit, poorly edited, often poorly directed/acted and some really badly conceived VFX, all which points at bad directing/producing, rather than studio meddling.

That's sad, if a little predictable.

(The trailer really sucked me in!)

I'll stick to John Wick films - they do exactly what they say on the tin, and do it well!
