17th June Rural South300km
« on: 06 June, 2017, 08:49:41 pm »
I have just entered the RS 300km ride. I am a little late, but the entry was still open. Hope that the entry is accepted.

I have done this ride about 5 times before. Looking forward to it if my entry has been accepted.

Anybody else signed up?

This was my first audax back in 2009 and have always enjoyed riding, even though it covers similar road to where I normally ride.
I've entered again so see you all there.

hello

just to say that I've now added the updated routesheet, rider info and gpx to the website.

Hope the GPX file makes sense, but let me know if it doesn't.

Late entries are still possible  :)

cheers

Just seen the weather forecast for Saturday. Think I will roll out the plastic bike for this. Mind you wheels will need changing. Race wheels are a little too stiff.

Please note that the event starts from Mortimer Common, which is different to previous years.
I'm going with my fastest stiff wheels.

Hmm - race wheels or not race wheels? Plastic bike and 32 spoke with open pro or Campag Neutron. I felt a bit beaten up on Tuesday night after a thrash with the Campags. Have to ponder and see if I can be bothered when I come back from work tonight.

The GPX track has the ending .7z which means it can't be loaded onto a GPS.

I think .7z is the extension for a zip archive produced by 7-Zip but using a different compression method than for a standard zip file.  You can use 7-Zip to open it (and maybe other programs), and it will probably contain the GPX file.

i've unzipped the archive and placed the files at http://www.browning.myzen.co.uk/RS_2017_GPX/   You should be able to get the files from there.

Thanks for that. I've already been through the Unarchiver for Mac thing and had a go myself. If I have problems, I'll be sure to use your download.

Finally rehydrated...!!!  Thx to Org Ian for another great edition of this event.  Hard work in the heat but that pint of cider (well Magners...) in The Selborne Arms was one of the best things I've ever drunk :-)
