[HAMR] Jan 17th

No sign of the tracker yet so looking like a sensibly late start this morning. It's icy out there right now!

A 6.04am start for Steve. I hope the roads are well gritted in Milton Keynes!

And he's off.

For some reason the tracking map isn't showing up on my PC but he is doing 7.1 mph somewhere.

If this is a problem with trackleaders.com are UMCA going to get their knickers in a twist about it ?

Got up early this morning to solve a work problem, before the heating went on.  Mighty brisk in CET Towers.  Thoughts go out to Steve in the dark on the main roads this morning.

I planned to cycle a little today... No backing out - how can anyone back out of a short ride given Steve's effort.

Good luck today Steve. Keep safe.

I'd planned to do the weekly shop with my trailer today. Unfortunately, Mrs P beat me to it and did it yesterday.

A ride through the frost with a purpose, I could bear. But there's no way I'm going out there for the sheer hell of it.

Is Steve's record attempt "riding with a purpose" or is it the ultimate ride "for the sheer hell of it"? Either way, I remain awed.

Is it my imagination, or has Steve stepped up a gear this morning. I was expecting a short one due to weather, but I'm starting to think he has something else planned...

Off to York, according to twitter. I reckon tactical changes to suit the prevailing conditions will be a great help to Steve.

Doesn't Hoppo live in Richmond? I might wander down to try and spot our man on the road.

I believe he does.

Hey, York to Richmond will be an extra 40 miles in the back for TG.

Been through my patch again, keeping to the major roads. Kettering's mass tragic lights might have been testing his patience. Lots of A43 (4300) a road that no local cyclist would ever consider normally, not so bad early Sat morning.

He's currently approaching Willingham-by-Stow. On the Friday before the 1997 (I think) LEL he did the same ride after work and stayed, with my brother, at my mum's there. He then went on to do Willingham, Thorne, Edinburgh, London, Thorne, Cheshire, Mersey Roads 24hr TT and back to Milton Keynes. He was back at work the following Monday morning after his week off. That was the sort of riding that used to impress me.

He'll be stopping at Rosie's, surely?

(Assuming it's open).

Beat me to it, except I'm pretty sure it was 2001.

Also (and I'm sure no-one will believe this, but here goes anyway) he accepted the offer of a lift in a car from Willingham to Thorne.

Given the weather forecast for the north of England I'm not sure Richmond's such a good idea.

Deep snow up on the tops here in West Yorkshire at the moment (between Bradford and Halifax) hopefully it's not as bad over to the East.

It's dry here in Darlo, but bloody brassic.  There's still ice on the flat roof outside.

Richmond's amongst a network of well-gritted roads so he should be ok.

Willingham is in my backyward, shame im stuck on a 14 hour shift today, its dry here, was icy early on, on the backroads, but the roads he used from Saxilby, through to Gainsborough are usually well gritted,

144 miles already by 4:30 !!! it`s incredible; hope roads are clear it`s been quite nasty conditions here today, frozen sleet then snow on top , then thaw then sleet and now freezing---even A roads have required a lot of attention (car)
....after the `tarte de pommes`, and  fortified by a couple of shots of limoncellos,  I flew up the Col de Bavella whilst thunderstorms rolled around the peaks above

And looking at the forecast he could have a slight tailwind if he reverses course tomorrow. I wonder if he'll get his first 200 Mike day today
