Blackbird with irritating song
« on: 20 June, 2010, 08:38:13 pm »
Blackbirds are amongst my favourite garden birds, mainly because of their song.  But recently a local has developed a short phrase as part of it's repertoire which sounds remarkably like the sax riff from what used to be a favourite 70's reggae song.

Initially I was amused and entertained, but as the weeks have gone on it has become increasingly irritating.  I think it's because my attention it drawn to it every time it happens (every 5 or 10 minutes).  It's no longer a general background noise but a particular sound which forces itself into my consciousness.  I'm reminded of the use of Barry Manilow songs as torture by the US in Guantanamo Bay.

Anyone else heard a bird copying a favourite bit of music?
