decent book on greyhound racing?

(1/1)

Deano:
Long shot - but you never know...

My dad's best mate turns 70 next month, and last year they went part share in a racing greyhound.

Anyway, my dad has given me quite vague instructions to find a couple of books about the world of racing dogs.

So far, we've decided on this one:

https://www.headline.co.uk/books/detail.page?isbn=9780755311729

..But my dad also wants something which is more of a general guide to the tracks and the dogs and wotnot. I know, vague or what.  But he doesn't need a book on Guaranteed! How to Win $$$$ or How to Train Your Greyhound, just something general. Info about tracks, the history, famous dogs, without being too specific (no biographies of Mick the Miller!) or too dry.

My dad found this, but when I had a closer look, it's from 1934, so probs not what he's really after:

http://www.bookdepository.com/Greyhounds-Greyhound-Racing-Comprehensive-Popular-Survey-Britains-Latest-Sport-Carlo-Culpeper-Clarke/9781444657692

And this one looked interesting, seems to have earned all the Right awards and stuff, but he definitely wants something more factual, though I reckon his mate would enjoy it.

Any suggestions?

You could try getting hold of this?

Deano:
Ta, but non-fiction books are what he's after. Trust me, he wouldn't go for that, picky old bugger that he is :)
