A better meths burner
« on: 03 January, 2014, 02:00:30 pm »
For christmas, I was given a vacuum coffee maker, a bit like the one in the pic below (but not as posh).

The meths burner with it is a bit crap - just a single rope-wick burner - and takes ages. If the coffee maker is filled with boiling water then it still take 4-5min.

Can someone suggest a suitable replacement?

I did wonder - buried somewhere in my shed is a trangia knock-off with a burner.

I made a burner from a lynx can that works better than a trangia burner but relies on the pot sitting on the burner.

What's the carbon monoxide rating of a Trangia type burner?  This looks like something that's designed to be used indoors.

Definitely for use indoors.

I used to use paraffin lamps in small cabins on the boat and meths burners are commonly used on boats. Don't think it is much of an issue.
