Does anyone have any suggestions on where the best place to catch stage 5 would be. I'm thinking Daventry since it passes through there twice.

Only my second time watching a bike race in person, and the first was sort of accidentally

My recommendation would be the start or finish town.
Watching at the side of the road is exciting when the tension builds and the race traffic increases but when the race comes through it's almost impossible to recognise who is who 'cos they're SO quick, and once they've passed it feels like a bit of an anticlimax.
You can easily spend an hour or more milling around the start and see the riders close up, along with the cars loaded up with bikes on the roof (though access is more restricted than it used to be a few years ago). At the finish if you wait a couple of hundred metres past the finish line (hopefully where you can hear the commentary, and if very fortunate see a screen) the riders will come to a stop and greet their team and teammates right in front of you.
That's my family's method, honed over quite a few years in the UK, but we've yet to get to the TdF or the Giro which is our next project.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where the best place .....

I'm looking at a very early train to Northampton and then catching them as they proceed in 'neutral zone' to 0km point after which I'll tootle down to official start gathering point for 'race village' and big screen etc. I'll probably make my way into town to see them whizz past towards finish in Dearngate.
I have a friend in Northampton who I will also visit during my sojurn to Northampton.
I will have my bicycle to assist moving around!

Agree with start viewpoint.  Did this at TdF once (2015)*, then up hill when they came through again.  We were well fed with pastries/bread/fruit from sponsors, perhaps not so much in Nthpton...   :)

*Had to get there early though, and staying put in the space was quite a mission...

On Sat, I'm probably going to just watch on a corner on the down loop after the hills, & then carry on the ride home...

They didn't yomp over the North Pennines this year so I wasn't going to bother.
Nearest point was Darlington for the start, but I don't do towns/crowds.
So I hatched a last minute plan to watch the race through Yarm.
I knew it was much too early for any real action, but Yarm is a nice town to visit anyway, and parking was easy and cheap.
Good crowd out supporting - I chatted to a man of about my age who asked "is this what used to be the Milk Race?"
Then I pottered off to do a short DIY in the flatlands, and went home with a large Yorkshire Curd Tart.
A good day out.

Just back from Derby to watch today's start.  Ended up stood outside the Soudal Quick-Step coach chatting to a clubmate when Julian Alaphilippe appeared, chatted to the crowd, posed for photo's, signed autographs etc.  Then Remco Evenepoel appeared and was far less approachable.  I was impressed at just how many escort motorbikes there were.

I jumped the gun and headed off cross country on new-to-me bridleways to intercept the route at Dale Abbey.

The circus appeared followed eventually by the riders.  Even though it was only 12k after the start there was a group of four with a decent lead.  Bimbled back to where I had parked the car via a cappuccino and cake  :smug:

Over 50 bikes. And still not enough at times.

Question for Matt.
On previous TofB, we have enjoyed looking out for motorbikes with the logos of different police forces.
This year I didn't spot any. They all seemed to be NEG or just say police.
Are the police bikes still drawn from many forces and just don't have the logos?
Or were the bikes from the local force only.
Or were they just going too fast along Yarm High Street for me spot logos?
Appreciate the work you and all the motorbike riders do.

They are still from all over - it's the same CEG team (with minor changes) that are always out. There wouldn't be enough bikes from any one force to cover it, and we take a huge chunk of the country's escort trained bikes - which is why the Queen's death resulted in the race being cancelled as they were called off for VIP escort duty.
