Send me a PM with a list of your 10 favourite films ever.
Do not post on this thread as it will influence other people's choices.
Try to do it instinctively without referring to your DVD collection or t'internet.

1 - Mostest fave film
2
3

etc

10 - 10th mostest fave film

When I get a suitable number of messges I'll compile them into a top 10 YACF films list (using 10 points for favourite films and 1 point for 10th favourite)

Here are the top 10 (based on scores and not the number of entries)

I have to say that it's a heck of a good selection of films and maybe a good Christmas play list.

Apocalypes Now
2001 a space odyssey
bladerunner
pulp fiction
star wars
alien
The Godfather
dr strangelove
jean de florette
casablanca

I only ever watch Apocalypse Now until "some day this war's gonna end", cos it's a bit boring and metaphysical after that (apart from the quote where Kurtz goes on about the young men not being allowed to paint "fuck" on their airplanes).

Best shot of the film: Colonel Kilgore drinking coffee during the helicopter attack, with a huge vortex of smoke behind.
Hard work sometimes pays off in the end, but laziness ALWAYS pays off NOW.

I use that scene and the preceding bits as my test of any new TV.

When It first came out it ended with an air strike on the the encampment and a huge napalm explosion as the credits rolled. Now it just ends with Martin Sheen leaving on the boat. Anyone else remember this. I think I saw it 8 or 9 times in the cinema the first few years after it was made.

There's been several edits and cuts over the years, including the latest, Apocalypse Now Redux, that has a whole scene in a French colonial estate that was cut from the previous version. And i fact the story of the making of the film is almost as interesting as the film itself - Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse.
