A caravanette.

I once took part in a quiz for media types where Jim Bowen was the host. We named our team "A Top Of The Range Speedboat". He congratulated us on our wit. IIRC, one of the other teams was called "Here's What You Could Have Won".

Father Ted.

Everything I know about Catholicism I learned from that show.
First thought on seeing film of the new Pope taking Mass was: 'I'm a great fan of his. He really knows how to work the altar. Look at that chalice-work!'

It's even funnier if you were brought up a catholic and know lots of priests.

By pure coincidence I was watching Father Ted last night.

Is it me or was the upstairs of their housed modeled on the Fawlty Towers set?
Both me and the missus remarked on this as we watched the Bishops bedroom fill with rabbits last night.  (this was the episode that got me into Father Ted so I was very pleased to see it again)

It wasn't just that either - the happenings and script were very reminiscent of the Psychiatrists episode of Fawlty towers.
It just must have been paying homage

That would be an ecumenical matter.

Welcome to Stoneybridge. We have a stoney bridge.

Oh, also Absolutely.
It's a bit weird, but actually quite wonderful.

Look Around You.

A marvellous spoof of the 1980s "Television for schools and colleges" science programs!

I finally got the DVD boxset of "Dear John".  The first series is so good it hurts.  The second series is rather weak by comparison, although still watchable.  I'd never noticed before that Louise (the scary fox terrier-owning facilitator from Esher) has a thing for John.  Some of the humour wouldn't be allowed these days and it was slightly uncomfortable even in 1987.

Maybe I phrased this in a confusing manner

This is a reminder that you need to decide on ONE TV COMEDY

NOT a list of every TV series you found funny in your entire life

NOT just one episode of a TV Comedy (unless you absolutely think it's necessary)

A good example of a valid answer would be....

Porridge

or

Rising Damp

Jaded

  • The Codfather
  • Formerly known as Jaded

I think we need clarification.

Is Roger's Terry and June two programmes? There's an and in there.
It is simpler than it looks.

Some thoughts on this one, and I had the usual (for me) suspects of Absolutely, Monkey Dust, Slackbladder 2 and 3, Black Books, Python...

Blackadder 2 edges it. I want prezzies, Blacky.

Up Sunday. Mind you, I haven't watched much tv during the last 40 years.

I still remember one of the jokes, Dame Edna, 'Lesbianism, that word has always left a taste in my mouth', I've only ever been out of control with laughter at Barry Humphries and Harry Hill. My favourite bit of 'Up Sunday' were James Cameron's serious pieces, so for me it wasn't comedy, for the most part the English take comedy too seriously.

As far as I can see no one has mentioned the rather wonderful....

The Mary Whitehouse Experience.

Honourable mentions as well to: "Still Game," "League of Gentlemen," "Game on" "The High Life" and Rab C Nesbitt."

Don't forget the plague of Rolf Harrises - very scary if you were a young kid!

In retrospect, this was a very prescient comment for this 83 year old entertainer...

I was at the festival pictured, just out of sight in one of the photos. See my gig report on Wilko for other details. I do not recall him "becoming emoyional and thanking people for their support"
