Given that my trike has had a rear axle tube replaced and I never got round to having the Brompton repainted, time to update this thread. The plan is to blast and repaint my trike, my Brompton and possibly my Pomp (depending on price). I figure that if all are the same colour and done at the same time, the total cost might be somewhat lower than just adding up individual prices. I'd prefer to drop off and pick up the various frames myself (hence close to London), rather than relying on the tender mercies (and cost) of couriers.
Few bicycle frame painters near London refer to painting Bromptons but a couple refer to painting Brompton frame parts, which suggests the frame and stem hinge pins need to be drilled out/ removed before the frame parts are handed to the painter. I plan to completely disassemble and rebuild the various machines and so it looks like I'll be replacing all the Brompton hinge pins and swingarm bearings. Very few refer to repainting trikes (or tandems or other complex machines), so I guess photos and quotes will be needed.
https://ctc-powder-coating.co.uk/our-work/bicycles/ prices start at £75, in Essex
https://www.armourtex-powdercoating.co.uk/bicycle-powder-coating starts at £200 and goes up very rapidly from there, in Hackney
https://www.colour-tech.co.uk/prices/ wet spray prices start at £140, in Kent
There are several general powder coaters around that are probably quite a bit cheaper than Armourtex but I have no idea which ones are likely to do a good job on a bicycle.
There are a couple of London bicycle painting specialists quoting prices from £400 and up for a single colour on a steel bike.
