The term "Yellow Belly" is a local expression meaning someone form Lincolnshire.

It derives from the colour of the Lincolnshire regiment's uniform.

Firstly, welcome to Britain.  We do things differently here. ;)

A traditional nickname (affetionate-ish) for Lincolnshire folk is 'Yellowbelly'.  The reasons for this name are disputed.

I've never seen these sweets before, but I confess that I do not peruse racks of jelly sweets very often, for two reasons.

:)

I googled after I answered.

My brother lived in Lincolnshire for a few years after he left University. It was he who told me about the expression "Yellow Belly" and the reason behind it. Having read the Wiki entry, I'd say the military explanation sounds the least far-fetched.

The reason I was first told was not listed there, but was the first I was told, was that flatlanders were jaundiced because of malaria.
