Not exactly fettled (I failed) - a bloke came into my shop wanting to buy a valve rubber for the tube on an ancient bike!!!  Woods valve - my recollection is that they moved to a "sliding seal" akin to a Presta in the late 1960s.

Anyway - I had a Woods tube in stock which to my amazement had a valve rubber - obviously not prepare to sell just the rubber and the bloke was too mean to buy the tube for £4.  People?

I've probably got a collection of Woods valve rubbers somewhere, alongside the slightly more useful collection of Schrader valve caps.  They come with puncture repair kits.  Aren't Woods valves still common in ABROAD, where the FOREIGNS come from?

Yep, they come in PRKs from Lidl, Aldi and the like.

Used to able to buy lengths of rubber valve tubing, and cut off pieces to suit.

One budding entrepreneur at my primary school used to sell pieces as crash helmets for putting on Dinky Toy racing car drivers' heads, to save them from damage when they overturned while "racing" them in the playground (made a change from marbles).

If your customers refuse to pay £4 for them, there's little chance of freedom for them!

Turns out you can get them from Halfords.

Though as it's Halfords, when you get there it will turn out to be something completely different.

Some stem swappage on my Audax / Bun Run Bike. (A cheap and cheerful 2014 Pinnacle Dolomite 2).
Swapped the stem for a 100mm + 6 degree rise, for a 110 +17mm rise.

Reach is approx the same, but the bars are now a mere 30mm below the saddle, compared to the 55mm below the saddle with the 100mm + 6 degree rise stem.

I'm hoping this is a bit more comfy on my new abdomen (which doesn't like bending too much following my laparotomy in July) At least it's not as extreme as the comedy 110 +35 degree stem I previously tried!  ;D

First test ride on Sunday. Pretty comfy! Just need to tweak the angle of the drop bars slightly, and job should be a good 'un (at least until I buy myself a shiny new Audax bike next year)

Dremeled yet another chunk off my bandsaw, the idiot safety guard that stops you seeing the point where blade meets wood with both eyes at once. Also removed the guard pieces that protect your fingers when you want to saw wood underneath the table* but make it impossible to adjust the lower blade guides. Put in a new blade, redid the set-up, remounted the table and bloody hell the MPoS** cuts straight with the fence.  For now. Noisy as hell but then it always was.

Metabo used to be good, but nowadays they're purveying the same QC-free Chinese crap as all the others but with a premium for Qualität aus Deutschland.  I should have bought a 100-euro cheapo then I'd have had the same quality. That or forked out over a grand.

This morning I was treated to a cold shower, so once I'd breakfasted I broke out my multimeter, brought up shower doctor on YouTube and went fault finding.

Micro switches ok
Heater elements  ok
What's this widget on top of the heater tank? Why it is the thermal cut out switch and what is more it is open circuit.
New one ordered on next day delivery for 20 notes.

The annoying thing is today was meant to be spent getting leaseholder paperwork sorted out so I can get a New! Shiny! bathroom, including new shower.

Chased and faced a BB shell.  It's having an old-school cup and cone BB, so it needs to be spot on.

Rear number plate fitted to the bike rack.
HEadlamp bulb replaced on GBOF.  Surprisingly involved for something so trivial and came with  Doh! moment when i put it back together and found the plastic sealing plug from behind the bulb sat on top of the rocker cover.

after six years of use and over 20k km on it i've serviced the rear deore lx hub on my hack bike that lives outside all the time. bearing races all smooth, balls still round, so cleaned everything, packed with fresh grease and reassembled.
front hub can wait until spring.

Today I did a build of a new eMTB. This one is a gnats whisker south of £10k :o

Carbon frame, SRAM eTap drive train (very slick wireless operation and very easy to tune) and the new wireless dropper post.

A bit nice.

Made a pencil tray to go ride on top of one of my bench drawers.

Did first frantic glue-up of wall panelling - it needed clamps to keep it flat while the cramps squeezed the biscuits in.

That last clause sounds like the uncomfortable part of my ride yesterday.

But if the bike is nicked while you're lazing in the the sun, drinking coffee and eating cake, you can just use your phone to set off the ejector seat.

If you've a friend who's a tradesman then it's friendlier to give him your business, not to ask for freebies.
