Wish me luck, I've got a 12 hour TT tomorrow.
I've only been on the bike since the start of May!
I start at 6:01AM (first rider of about 60) and am apparently going to be dealing with significant wind; Weather (http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/today.asp?zipcode=lydd)
20mph winds. And rain.
Joy.

One word: Enjoy! ;D
-
Nice one! Have fun ;D
And don't forget , the wind is your friend
-
Good Luck
Ride like hell!
-
It is all in your mind, think positively.
Good luck.

Good luck
Ride fast,ride relaxed 8)

G'luck.
Show 'em how it's done!
-
I've even gone so far as this; to deal with the wind, I've left a thin strip of hair unshaven down the side of each leg to promote transition between laminar and turbulent flow!
-
& that, with the lucky stripes on the bike, will make all the difference :D
Good luck!!

"Liar you are still trying to get Zebra stripes" ;D
Good luck, I was hoping to be there but not done nearly enough this year.
Say hello to Andy Miles from the Gemini BC for me
-
I ended up doing about 217 miles, which I'm not unhappy with considering that the wind was utterly horrific!

Thats bloody good, chapeau Gonz' ;D
-
18mph average for 12 hours, that's pretty good going given the blowy conditions today.
Where was the course?

Bethersden – Ashford – Lydd – Rye – Tenderden circuit – Woodchurch circuit - Bethersden

I'd be happy averaging 18mph for one hour!
Come to think about it - I did whilst laden and touring this year - in Denmark! 8)
-
Nice one Gonzo!
That's more than two thirds as far as I managed onna tandem in good weather in double the time... RISPECK!
-
It sounds like a nice week's tour to me.
-
Hi Gonz' Well done and a very respectable speed. I didn't average that for a 60 Mi in the PD this WE! (Only 17.2)
-
Thanks all :)
My moving average was 18.8mph, but I was stopped for just short of 30 mins to give a total average of 18.2mph.
It just goes to show how quickly you can improve. 3 months ago I'd not ridden a bike this year. My first ride was a 50 mile hilly ride with an average of 15mph and that really hurt.
Anyhow, here's my training plan if anyone's interested (note how it's all outside of working hours):
Tue - 10 mile TT inc. riding there and back (20 miles each way)
Thu - as above
Sat - Ride at 75% maxHR of increasing distance
Sun - 3x hill climbs up a 1 mile hill
-
Well done Gonzo.
-
Good ride Gonzo. On a sporting course by the looks of it and on a windy day. What distance did the winner do?
You probably need some miles in your legs for a better 12 hour. You're much faster than I am. I've never gone under the hour in a 25 mile TT and your 10 times blow my PB (22:54 in 1993) out of the water.
I might have a go at the Icknield 12hr. That's always windy.
-
The provisional result puts the 1st guy as coming in with 266miles, but they reckon that he would have set a course record (271miles) had the weather been better.
My clubmate did 248 miles (2nd place) so we're in with a shout of the team award!
-
Haha!!!
We got the team award!
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
660.888 miles but 2nd place got 659.757miles! talk about close! I'm now really pleased that I found it in myself to lift the pace up to a 20mph average for the last lap!
(I also got 3rd in best improvement, but that's really not important in comparison!)

I feel that the smileys offered by this forum don't do it justice so....
