Exploring new words
« on: 09 May, 2008, 02:13:00 pm »
So, young ap, age 5, comes home from school with a little "rhyme" book he's made in class. It has two letters - "at" - on the inside rear cover and a series of "pages" on which are written other letters to make words ending in "at" when turned over to face the reader.

Therefore, we have c + at = cat, b + at = bat etc.

Imagine mine and Mrs Woofage's surprise when we come to the word beginning with "sh" ;D !

We meant to warn his teacher this morning but forgot. He's a very bright boy so probably made the thing all by himself with little intervention.

Are you sure he knows the difference between 'ch' and 'sh'.

It could be the adults who have the dirty minds...

Pretty sure. He had to attend speech therapy when he was 3 or 4 and "ch" and "sh" are practised quite a lot. I think he was just using sounds he knows to make new words. Made us larf though!
