Rotovated most of the empty ground and planted celery plants. Courgettes, pumpkins and french beans will fill the rest, with lettuce wherever they will fit.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is...

Put up guttering around my shed in the pouring rain and installed new water butt. Guttering leaks, butt still empty.
Mojo is being awakened.

taken down some wood and used growbags, and brought back paint (Kennington People on Bikes: unskipping with joy) and Mrs Speshact transplanted her purple Pak Choi and advised her neighbours on options for planting their asparagus crowns. Picked another shed load of strawberries and some rasperries and elephant garlic.

Planted some climbing bean seeds.
Transplanted some kale and beetroot.
Topped up my paths with chippings.
Watered everything.

Had my first strawberry

Weeding is on the cards today  :-\

The bit of dampness last weekend means that every weed on the allotment has come to life and it now looks very green - but with the wrong stuff.  I shall be spending the day on my knees...

Two thirds of the allotment duly weeded  - it did take about 5 hours  :(

I also took a trug full of lettuces and radishes to the WeightWatchers meeting tonight.

Don on the plot next to me yesterday asked me if I would thin out his lettuces and I could take the seedlings so I duly did.  I ended up with dozens of little lettuce seedlings though - not wanting to waste any I planted them all on my plot so I've ended up with lots more lettuces than Don now.  I hope he doesn't think I've been greedy!  ::-)  I did some weeding while I was there too though.

I can see I'm going to have to visit the allotment pretty much daily now.  Stan (over the fence) explained to me how 20 minutes after work can easily turn in to a couple of hours.  I hope I'm not turning Claire in to an allotment widow.

Squeezed in some leeks wherever I could.
Spread grass clippings round the spuds.
Have now run out of space.
Ate some strawberries.

Salad this evening - lettuce, spring onions & grated carrot - all from the garden.  Wonderful.

Also: Thinned out potato plants (better success rate than I expected, given the fox & cat digging that goes on) and planted betroot seedlings out.

I should have put some mange tout and french beans in, but I forgot where I put the pots :-[

An hour and a half of fruitpicking and an hours weeding. Plus the only bits of yoga I know.

Off back there now for some raspberries, ran out of tupperware.

Had a meal largely made up from allotment produce.
Lettuce, radishes, rocket, potatoes, grated turnip and grated raw beetroot (especially good) with quiche and lashings of balsamic vinegar followed by strawberries.

More broccoli and some leeks in today.

Harvested the garlic - and some of the onions.  The rest of the onions should be ready in a week or so.

The garlic is a nice size - and some of the onions are massive.

Spent an hour with my Lidl flame gun giving the weeds some love and attention.

It's nothing like as effective as a hoe, but far more fun.

Love digging up potatoes, it's like discovering buried treasure.

Also sauteed some tips of broad beans which were delicious, not as strong a taste as spinach.

More onions harvested today.  I reckon the rest will be ready in the next two weeks.

The garlic is almost dry.  I shall have to practice my plaiting...

Killed greenfly on lettuces. I doubt I got 'em all.

I had a go at the blackfly yesterday.

I planted out some peas and mange-touts to feed the slugs now they've just about finished the first course of runner beans and peas :(

And I had a poke at the parsnips to see how they were shaping up.  Getting fatter

Harvested a potato grobag of Maris Pipers. The dry period in May seems to have reduced the yield compared to last year.

But boiled in their skins and served with a little butter, omm, nom, nom nonetheless.

Dahlias are going mental after the rain. Buy some tree lilies. That's all I'm saying. I planted one I bought in Poland two years ago and this year it's a 6 footer with 16 buds. I watch tv in the front room and people who walk past swivel their head 180 degrees.

Watered everything today - it needed it!   And scoffed a couple of raspberries because they were there.

Marvelled at how well everything is growing ...

Done 6 and a half hours today, mostly playing with the new chainsaw onna stick they've bought for the hedges.

Am bitten, scratched, stung and tired but happy I've done my bit. A couple of people said how nice my plot was looking for a new boy which cheered me up as I think it's one of the scruffier ones.

Might have the opportunity of a new to me shed and a couple more beds from next doors plot. We're allowed a fire up there even though it's written in the official rules it's forbidden. Came home with panniers full of edibles.

A very good day! . .  despite getting nettled right in the face, a lot.
