We have also FAILED big time with carrots and parsnips.
Can't be bothered to keep trying.

I managed carrots in the Bourneville garden many years ago and was reasonably successful.  Only trouble was, that when they were cropping, carrots were about 3p a ton in the local green grocers.  Seemed a bit pointless and I've never bothered since.

Yes, I tend to go with whatever I know we'll eat masses of, or stuff you can't get in the shops easily.

Oddly, although carrots have been a major failure, parsnips and hamburg parsely have done pretty well.

We are on a heavy loam, so germination of things like parsnip and carrot is a bit dodgy - early season can be either wet cold, or dry and it sets like concrete. If they do germinate, crops are usually big - "A pound of carrots? - it seems a shame to cut one in half!"

Anyway, freshly pulled carrots taste sooooooooooo much better than shop bought.  :P
If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is...

Yeah, that's why I try to grow 'em. Same with potatoes (though I grow relatively expensive varieties), onions, leeks, cabbages . . . .  It's not the price, it's the flavour. Some of what I grow is stuff that's hard to buy, such as kabu & other Japanese vegetables.

more general pruning of the fruit trees, plus some tree cuttings in the nursery bed, they've made good growth in three years.  The apple, gages and cherry I put in two years ago look like they'll produce this year.

Topped the lawn off as well, hopefully  abit of sun will get in there so I can give it another go during the week

Tomatoes, caraway and clary sage seeds sown and in propagators or cold frames as appropriate.
(Which wasn't bad seeing we had friends calling for a walk down to the local stately home for a look round and some lunch, and I managed to watch the rugby)

Very short back and sides to the raspberry canes.
Yes I know I'm a bit late.  I'm late with everything in the garden this year.  It will be a write off veggie wise, but that was more or less planned.
The only thing I managed to do timeously over the winter was pruning the fruit trees and espaliers.

A potato, some rockets and some peas. Along with some random wild flowers in various empty pods. Oh and a wee tree into a old walking boot, just for a laugh.

cut lawn (third time in 2016); trimmed lawn edges; put cloches over spuds to protect from forecast Artic blast :( ; Rounduped ground elder ; had small bonfire; dug out dandelions ; thought about what`s OK to plant with a forecast of a cold spell and cold Spring...

Managed a half hour out there this evening.
Front lawn mown and edged, ten minutes of weeding done (barely scratched the surface!), closed the cold frames down for the night, sorted some pots in the garage.
Nice to get out there again. Now just have to make a habit of it!

When I dig up borage roots I don't want to waste the goodness so I smash them with a spade and leave them in a bucket of water for a few weeks. It's like rocket fuel as compost tea watered down but the smell is utterly disgusting and may get the murder squad knocking on your door.

Planted some fennel & a Japanese salad green thing which I can't remember the name of. I'll have to ask Ms. U to write it in hiragana for me.

Yesterday I re-potted my honeysuckle and put some jasmine plugs out.  Hoping the slugs don't notice 'em before they establish.
Milk please, no sugar.
