Planted the final two gooseberry bushes I have grown from cuttings. Transplanted some more broad beans.

Dug up some more bindweed roots, very satisfying that.

It's getting to the time when I go down after dark slug hunting.

I dug a bit more of the spud bed.  There are some serious root systems in there :(

Got a bit windy; I got a bit bored; TGL came home, so I went in ;D

Dug up from the base of a 30 year old compost heap.

Name that jaw bone.

I think it's a dog fox but ICBW and probably am.

Doesn't look like fox (or carnivore) to me.  Pig, perhaps??

Got stuff for wormery and (yesterday) for a small raised bed to put in our bit of shared border.  It'll be about 5' x 4', I reckon - mainly salad and herbs.  Getting it built is a small project for me and FirstBorn while Dr RJ is away.  The wormery is a secret ...

I would guess at a sheep.

I'd say sheep or goat

Looks like a grazer to me.

Jaw-bone is possibly too deep (top to bottom) for sheep ...
I'd say sheep or goat
... and thus also for goat

I dug a bit more.  Lots of roots to get out, but it's worth doing it thoroughly, I suppose.

The foxes have come to have a check what I've planted :-\

Yet another day cutting a row of 50ft high sycamores into manageable pieces before they begin to get into leaf (the sap is rising; I may loose the race...).

Memo: think carefully before planing species that will, in a mere 30-odd years, grown ginormous. Your children, if they live in the same house after your day, will thank you.

Completed felling them yesterday and today completed cutting them up and loading them into friend's van so he can convert them into his next winter's fuel. Hooray!  :D

Now I can catch up with everything else in the garden.

Said friend will bring his chainsaw around at some point to tidy up the stumps.

Hope to plant some flowering cherries in the autumn to replace the sycamores - varieties with a good spread for shade, but limited height. Anyone got suggestions for potentialy suitable varieties?

Yesterday, I finished digging and then built the raised beds for the spuds.  There were some epic roots in there!  i think quite a few from the tree at the end of the garden.  Hope there's no recurrence. :-\

Just watering and tending for the moment, then, till the spuds go in.

Bought a heated propagator from B&Q on the way home (though it's probably warm enough now to not need one, oh well, will be good for starting earlier next year).

Have one half planted with spring onion and radish (both in a compost filled half seed tray), and the other half has a half seed tray with six compost 'plugs', 2 each of brocolli, cayenne pepper and rocket.

This time I've written myself a note of what's where.

Yesterday I potted three cucumbers, one tomato and planted a windowsill tray/trough with mangetout. And ripped a bunch of ivy off the garden wall.

Still have some tomatos and cucs to repot but couldn't be arsed today.

Have also taken some pics of the garden so as to get some advice on what I should do where.

Watered the pots as they were looking really rather dry.
Cut the asparagus crop. That's two spears then.

Bought a 55 litre trug and drilled some holes in the bottom, a bit of gravel and then rather a lot of compost and I've got some carrots sown. Got fiddly with spacing the seeds so it turned into more of a sprinkle and I'll just have to thin once they germinate (hope they do germinate).

Not sure if I've drilled big enough holes and not sure if the net curtain draped across the top of the tub (to prevent the neighbour's cat taking an interest) is blocking too much light but will wait and see.

One or two more trips to B&Q and then I've got to stop buying things or this will be the most expensive veg ever  :-\

Put in a couple of strawberry plants to fill gaps in the strawberry bed. Realised I  had a few self-seeded  potato plants from last year coming up so let them be. Planted a 4x4 cluster of sweetcorn, two sweet peppers and weeded the blackcurrent bushes.

Carried on earthing up the potatoes.
Erected the support for mangetout.
Planted out some more sweetcorn.
Tied in the raspberry canes.

Watered things with a weak comfrey feed. This stuff is potent !!

Dug out horsetail and bindweed.

There's only two crowns and they are only three years old and haven't had as much attention as they probably need to be more productive. Nutty with spears sounds dangerous.

Started clearing and levelling the ground for the bed ...

Delayed by a bout of , the bed is now built and filled with compost (2 trips to Homebase @ 1 mile pushing 120 litres of compost lashed to the back of the Marin with half an old 9mm climbing rope).

Discussions with Dr RJ about precisely where to put what in its "spacious" 1.8m2 are currently interrupted by Work  ;)

Will sort tomorrow (but basically:  lettuce; chard; rocket; a few peas; a couple of sunflowers; space for a few french beans; and a sprinkling of pot marigold - herbs in pots around the outside).

That's Plan A, anyway.

Damn, potatoes got a little frosted last night. Have tucked up the sweetcorn for tonight.
Put up some more mangetout supports.

More horsetail and bindweed dug out.

Planted some mint, sunflower and squash seeds.

Had some small plants outside for a bit to harden them up.

Earthed up my potatoes slightly, didn't completely bury the current growth.

And purchased a small (1.5mx45cm) polytunnel for £1. Along with a few other bits and pieces, yay for Poundland.

Will be doing some work on our new plot on Sunday (the old plot is too big for us and is totally overgrown with couch grass - tried cultivating the plot and it's just not working).

Pulled out as much bindweed and couch as I could be bothered with.
Earthed up some potatoes
Did lots of watering.
Nuked the bindweed and couch around the edges of the plot, and on the bed that I'm going to 'getaround to digging soon'.
Eat cake
Drank fizzy pop.
Watched the cloudless sky. (And very quietly wished for rain..... but only at night)
Too many angry people - breathe & relax.

Earthed up potatoes, sowed some sweet pepper, spring onion and cress.

And found one (out of two) lettuce in the otherwise empty veg bed has been eated (I assume by slugs), which is annoying as it was protected (so I thought) by a plastic bottle cloche.
