Stroh rum is 80% by volume.  Almost undrinkable.

At 70% proof how does it work out price wise against citrus degreaser?

I think the origins of the word proof are from the navy. To prove the strength of the rum provided to the sailors it was pored on gunpowder and if the powder could then be ignited it was proof.  Rum was rejected if it wetted the gunpowder and it did not ignite.

Went to Vinopolis a few years back and tried absinthe, it was OK.  I preferred the bombay sapphire cocktails that they gave us more though.

I haven't had a decent absinthe since NYE 2000 but then they don't make it like that anymore. I really like absinthe and the whole pouring process is a great way to start an evening with a lass.

I thought it had been illegal since 1901 or thereabouts, or is that only in France?

Only in France (and no doubt some other places, but never the UK).  It is actually legal again in France, as long as it's not actually called absinthe  ???

Pernod/Ricard and the other aniseed stuff the French drink were a "substitute" when absinthe was banned.

I had a bit last night, diluted & on the rocks, no sugar

I rather liked it. Like a very strong pastis, with a pleasingly bitter/astringent edge.  I did have some slightly odd dreams though :)

The day you ventured into my dreams, Rapples, they'd be classed as nightmares ;)

Just noticed your avatar signature, Rapples.  'Proud to be a country member'.

How apposite.

It used to say "YACF's biggest country member", which was even better :)
