WibblegibberJacksontracktandem!
« on: 20 March, 2009, 10:50:53 am »
It won't fit, it's got no brakes and it's utterly woofing mad.

Plz to think of some other good reasons why this is a really bad idea.

Not too spendy, and it's payday in a week... :demon:
It takes blood and guts to be this cool but I'm still just a cliché.

For road use, I imagine the handling would be a bit frisky.

A fixed tandem would be...interesting...on hills

But you really do have no choice :)

I'd like to see that in full effect at Calshot.

Chain looks a bit slack :) but as that's easily fixed I can't see a problem.

Ooh, it's got a curved rear seat tube like the old USWB Claud Butlers. Don't like the double twin laterals so much. But it's a nice frame, overall. Despite what he says, it would not make a good road bike - too short for anything but TTs.

Will you all please just stop it?  >:(

It's at the other end of the country.  I have enough bikes.  My stoker won't fit.  I've just sold a load of tandem parts.  There's no more room in the SEEKRIT BUNKER. I don't want to die without having climbed Alpe d'Huez.

Fatters - you have it.

Please?

On anything other than smooth boards, it would be an 'interesting' ride for the stoker :o

Seat tubes centre to top are 58cm and 56cm. That's not small.

Hmm.  If it's 54cm c-c, that's an 8cm diameter tube.  :-\

Front's extended for the seatpin clamp. It's got quite a high BB. It would be a good fit for me and I ride a (in old money) 23" frame.

Charlotte, don't worry about missing this opportunity.

There's another one (a Ken Bird rather than a Bob Jackson) lurking in a shed in Forest Hill.  Would you like me to pester its owner to dig it out and dust it down?

It still holds, I believe, the current tandem 100 mile record from around 1979 but I'm not sure how to check that.

I did once watch an attempt on the 200m flying start tandem record at Herne Hill.  It was quite a spectacle, and they missed the record by a couple of hundredths of a second, I seem to recall.

Would it fit a 5'10" captain and a 5'4" stoker?  Our current bike are 56cm and 48cm frames respectively.

We're doing a 25 this weekend - our first this year (or in Liz's case, ever) but we're going to stick to solos to start with as our tandem is very much an audax beast and would need stripping down a bit not to look silly at a TT.

Do you think there's a ladies' record for the flying start 200m tandem?  It's got to hurt less than the ladies 24hr!

If you look closely you can see the nitrogen from the atmosphere freezing around it. Yes, it's that cool 8).

Buy it. Common sense does not apply ;D.

Hmm, I suspect not, sadly.  The original stoker's probably about 5'9" or 5'10" and I've never met the captain.

Does Calshot have a rule about kiddycranks?  ;)

My stoker won't fit.

Just bung some kiddie cranks on it  :D.

Anyway, if you want a really nifty fixed tandem why not get Joff to knock you up a tuppence ha'penny?

 ;) :D

From the expression on the stoker's face, the captain has just let rip and he's thinking "Mexican or Indian?".
Hard work sometimes pays off in the end, but laziness ALWAYS pays off NOW.

I don't think so - I will check - although it's the same club, I believe.  I had for some reason believed it was fixed.  I may have been wrong about that.

Edit:  No, it was a Southborough CC duo and it was a 1979 record.
