QR axle thread worn down inside

Pull rear hub axle out last night.

Part of the thread, corresponding to the freehub 'bolt' is worn down nearly flat. Looks like severe wear.

Initially wondered if axle was bent (nope). The wear is even, all the way around.

The only way this could have happened, I think, is if the tubular freehub bolt has been rubbing on the axle.

Anyone seen anything like this before?

i’d say it’s like that from the factory, at least it was on some hubs i’ve had/used.

Ah, thanks.

The axle was difficult to extract, I had to pull firmly. On other hubs, the axle has just dropped out. This was like it was glued in!

If there is minimal clearance between freehub bolt and axle thread, that would explain both (milled down thread and difficulty of extraction).
