Hello,

Who is entered for this Audax? I've not looked at trains yet, but suspect that riding out may be the only option from London...

yes  :o

I've seen the full route, eeek! If you thought Kidds Toys was bad you'll love this. Some lovely bits though including Beddlestead Lane and Motts Mills (up!)

I won't be there sadly (tackling even larger hills in the Picos De Europas) - but this sounds amazing and I hope it gets permified by Billy within the fullness of time as it looks challenging.
Right! What's next?

Ooooh. That sounds like a daft idea.  I am in!

Billy is thinking of permifying it but has hit the usual problems (even in the Beautiful South) of obtaining receipts in the back of beyond which this ride does a lot of.

AWE is indeed quite a tough ride, although I've tried to be fair in balancing out the tough with the smooth.  I personally think its important that a grimpeur has some stretches to recover and get some time in the bank.  So, there should be enough long, uncomplicated bits to ensure most get around well within the time limits, although I expect a handful to be fretting about time when they get to Eynsford (which reminds me, I must send a reminder to carry lights...)

Once the calendar events are out of the way, my intention is to use September to get Around Weald Expedition registered as a permanent, such that they are available from the start of the new season.  I have already scoped out the necessary changes to the route to get reliable control points: Keston moves to New Addington, Groombridge to Langton Green and Eynsford to Swanley.

I am in two minds about whether to permify Kidds Toys, as I would then be offering three 100s, which might be viewed as variations on a theme.  One option I'm toying with is changing the AAA Milne into a 50km ride, to give variety - people wanting to do a 100 can then do back-to-back rides.

Another rider tested the Around Weald on Saturday.  He survived.

There will be a couple of minor clarifications to the route sheet, and possibly one instruction addition (I just need to check it out in person before commiting it to paper).  Expect these later this week.  The pub finish will stay, due to a couple of successful petitions from entrants...

There will be plenty of you on this event (30 on each so far, with entries on the line being accepted and some expressions of intent).  I'm surprised its been so popular, given I've kept it relatively low key in both the Kidds Toys' and AWE's incarnations.

I checked before I registered, this one's perfect:

I picked the 8:30 start time as it appeared there were a few trains that arrived there or thereabouts.  If I remember correctly the 0804 goes via Redhill which is a convenient interchange station.

just looking at the full gpx for the first time,

1. White Hill right up there in painland, will be dusting off the triple
2. Keston, don't really know it usually go to New Addington which is OK
3. no nasty drop down and climb back up from Woldingham
4. No Kidds Hill, Motts Mill much steeper but mercifully short
5. no Willingford Lane

The rest is Kidds Toys I believe; apart from One Tree Hill nothing of great note apart from the 14% thingy

phew!

I suspect Ide --> Toys towards end the ride will result in some tantrums in the last 10km.  Emmetts Lane has some kicks in it.

Keston has a little surprise waiting for you....

I am sorry to say that I am out of this ride, which I was quite looking forward to.  Booked a last minute family holiday, leaving this Saturday.  I especially liked the idea of the pub finnish, which I see that the AWE has.

Me too also as well!!!

I have to mess around getting the RS into my flexible CD case system, which involves retypes / reduction in size photocopying, and lots of hair pulling  :-)

However I'm leaving Brizzle early on Friday to get up to Mildenhall for Saturdays Rally Roving 300, and once I've left home I'm stuck, so would appreciate the amends by Thursday eve, preferably in 'word'!!

Sorry to be a pain...

Mikey

For no other reason than my usual in depth preparation, I've been through the gpx file with a fine toothcomb, and pronounce it to be excellent - a first class bit of work

I'm very familiar with a lot of these roads, hills and places, but being a non-audaxer this reads like the script of Mornington Crescent!

Paypal entries closed.

On the line entries only from now on.  First come first served.

My own ride of Kidds Toys tomorrow.  Don't know whether to be pleased or displeased that I will be soaking up all the juice from the clouds so that the riders on Sunday get all the sun.

spotted an obvious howler on the route sheet; the organiser must be missing North of the Border; it's Newick Lane not Hawick Lane after Mayfield;

also look out (and bring some spare change) for the scarecrows in Motts Mill (a local thing where villages decorate the place with them for charity)

There was a village on one of the Yorks rides where they had scarecrows everywhere.....

I do look quite a bit like Worzel Gummidge, so I worry they'll keep me....

What a fantastic day.    After last week's Tour of the Hills from Shere, I was dreading this as there was 50% more climb and Billy even added 15km to the usual 200.   My fears were unfounded as he had devised a very scenic route with well surfaced roads and very few cars.   Only a very few hills matched the ToH for severity, and there were plenty of long descents on good surfaces to enjoy.   Many thanks Billy for all the work you put in.  The Route description was brilliant and the Controls first class.
