When I tried 4 and didn't like it initially (on my home computer) I just went here, downloaded 3.6 and installed it to revert.

Failed here - Windows 7, big black space at top of page - tried system restore, after which Firefox wouldn't open at all; have reverted to 3.whatever, and will wait a bit.

I've tried on Unbuntu and XP so far and its been fine on both.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Not available in the Fedora repositories yet, so I had to install manually.

For reference, untar to /usr/local/lib/firefox-4.0, then copy the 'firefox' shell script from that folder to /usr/bin/firefox to replace the existing one.   Torbutton doesn't comply, and neither does the English language pack!

It's much nicer than 3.6 on my netbook - much more screen space which makes a lot of difference when you've only got 640px to play with!

Dark Fox is a nice theme for it.

So far I've upgraded from 3.6.x to 4 on Win7/32 and Win7/64 machines at home.  They both do what I might reasonably expect.

I'm running 4.0 on my computer at work (XP), and I like it.

Nope, not yet.  One of these days I must learn how to work with .tar.bz2 (et al.) files.  Two years running Ubuntu and still relying on repositories or .deb files.  :-\

It's in a PPA repository. For Ubuntu 10.4 or 10.10:

    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-stable
    sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

No need to fiddle around.

I prefer not to show the menu bar, and thus by default there is a really annoying orange coloured Firefox button. Thankfully, I am not alone and someone has kindly made an add-on to make it transparent, my own preference:

Much nicer  :)

Or any chosen colour:

On my FF4 I seem to have lost the 'new Tab' {+} button and tab bar - any ideas?   :-\

Try right clicking on the spot where the tabs should be?

Thanks.  It seems the 'always show tab bar' in options, was unclicked - don't think I did that...  (Windows 7)

Can you install it to sit alongside an existing FF3.6?  I'd like to test it but don't want to scare the rest of the family just yet.

Trouble at mill... Santander's website is broken in FF4. Ahh, don't you love rubbish, non-standards compliant websites provided by banks?

Got my first bugette. On Ubuntu when Firefox has been open several hours you cant select anything from bookmarks. As you try and move the mouse over the list of bookmarks the list disappears. Closing and restarting Firefox fixes it. Oh well not a deal breaker and hopefully it will be fixed soon.

Claimed to import (and upgrade) my add-ons.  In actual fact it lied and didn't do adblock, but that was fixed manually.
1st visit to a site with embedded Vimeo vid told me to either "download a modern HTML5 browser" (with a link to Safari) or get the latest Flash version.  Hmm - well I have the latter, which I had just downloaded from Chromium a few days ago. Now website and dev page are useless and stuck in 2009 and don't tell me where it's meant to go.  So neither HTML5 nor Flash video.
Back to Chromium for now... and being Webkit based (iirc?) is about as close as I'll get to that "modern HTML5 browser" called Safari (also Webkit based iirc?), on this Linux box ;)
It is pretty quick though. But Chromium and others are not exactly sluggish.
