Brevet 25000 Question
« on: 18 July, 2008, 10:47:40 am »
AUK website states -

" In a six-year period, a Paris-Brest-Paris OR London-Edinburgh-London, another ride over 1200km, a 1000km, a 24 hour team ride, three Super-Randonneur series, and other rides to top up to 25000km".

With respect to the "other ride over 1200k", would another PBP or another 1200k such as Madrid - Gijon - Madrid (within the 6 year time limit obviously) be counted, or does it have to specifically be a ride formally recorded as 13 pts or more?

Just curious.   :P

Dear Mr Curious of Edinburry,
This doesn't exactly answer your question about distance, but Nev Holgate confirmed that perms count* for "for another ride over 1200k". I wonder too, looking at the wording, whether they really mean PBP OR LEL? ie if you count one, you can't count the other?   :-\

* I was just asking out of curiousity too.  :P  ;)

It's a bit weird, but actually quite wonderful.

I have been lead to believe that LEL and PBP count as an "other ride over1200km" from my clubbies who are B25Ks

Yeah PBP is definitely over 1200km - it's 1227km.

Still working on mine.

I have the PBP, two of the SRs, and hope to complete the 1000 this season.

That'll just leave me needing the arrow, another SR, LEL, and about 90 points on top.

I need a 1000 and about 55 points, would have happened this year had I not been injured.

You have to have one PBP or LEL. "Another 1200k" can be any BR or BRM event including another PBP or LEL.

It seems to make more sense for me to go for LEL than any other 1200+ from where I am now.  In theory I could complete the set by the end of next year (but unlikely by the end of next season).

I have points:

2006 : 11 + 2007 : 51 2008 : 45 so far.  I hope to end the season on 70-75 points.

That would leave me 113 points (81 on top of the specific rides I need) needed.

The big problem with that is, it was actually a struggle to get the 8 additional points in 2007 after PBP.  :-\

I suspect that Toothgrinder managed to get a B25000 in 2007 alone.  Presumably he holds the record for fastest completion over any period?

Any guess who managed it quickest from their very first audax ride?

I'm not a contender, but for the record it will have taken me from March 2005 until August 2008 (3 yrs 5 mths) to get there.  Would have been quicker had it not been for me having to DNS the New Forest 1000 two years ago.

April 29th 2006 was my first BR.

I'm not in the frame either, it will be >3 years to the day once I've completed LEL.

If I'm not mistaken the curent handbook states another ride of '1300km' or more doesn't it? ::-)

Copied from the PDF:

Quote
The Brevet 25000 award was instituted in 1991 and requires a Paris-Brest-Paris or Edinburgh-London,
another event of 1300 km or over, a 1000 km, a 24 hour team ride, three Super-Randonneur series, plus
other events to a total of 25000 km, all ridden within a 6 year period. Claims must be made to the AUK
Recorder. Claims prior to 1991 are not accepted

PBP + LEL should count though.

Yup. Handbook (including the PDF on the AUK website) says 1300km or more.

So do the Regulations on the AUK Website:-

Link to Regulations on AUK Website

9.4.
(vii) Brevet 25000: in a rolling period of up to six years: 3 Super Randonneur series, PBP or LEL, another ride of 1,300km or more, an event of 1,000 km, a Team Arrow or Fleche plus any BR or BRM events to a total of 25,000 km.

The wikipedia page on Audax UK claims it's PBP or LEL plus 1200k+ which is neither PBP nor LEL.  Which may be part of the source of confusion.

I'm guessing this is wrong: PBP + LEL does count as it sounds like people have just done those rides (plus the other requirements) and got the award.

The wording of the regulation is slightly ambiguous, TBH.

Interesting. I queried the wording where it refers to "another ride of 1300km or more, an event of 1000km." I asked whether there was in intention to distinguish between "events", which implies calendar events, and "rides" which could be perms as well. I haven't kept the reply, but the answer was that there was no intention to differentiate. And Neville Holgate has confirmed specifically that a 1000k Perm would be acceptable for the Brevet 25000.

The regulations for the Brevet 5000 make no reference to "events", just "validated Brevets" and "rides".

Still just curious, you understand.  :-X

It's a bit weird, but actually quite wonderful.

I suspect that's merely because they're written more recently and thus vetted for ambiguities.

Gosh.   :-X small can of worms opened.

I took my text from the "awards structure" page in the auk website, the one with pics of the medals, but the correction from megajoules ("another ride of 1300k or more") makes much more sense - I know that PBP was 1227k in 2007 but its still a 1200k audax event and not more.

I'm not overly keen on LEL but it sounds like its almost Hobsons choice if I am aiming for Brevet 25k.

Unless I establish and ride the "Yer mad in the Heid" 1300k.

Dalmeny HQ.

Leg 1 : Daylight 600
Leg 2: Two Firths 400
Leg 3 : A nice easy 300 up to Angus and back.

Sat 22nd May 2010 : 6am start.

I'll away and have a lie down now.

It's not a can of worms. It isn't that hard to work out. Just get our there and get the miles in. Easy as that.

It does

My two have both been

PBP
LEL (= event over 1300)
1000k event
York Arrow
3 SRs
Loads of other rides

I've never claimed any and am not sure if I could count the ones I've earned now. I almost got one last year, but never rode a team event. I'm not listed in AUK as having one, but I know that I have earned at least 2, maybe 3 or 4. I dunno?

You won;t be listed u;less you claim - it's not automatic

I dunno if there's a time limit on claiming- since it doesn't say there isn't, I suspect not - but it's an almighty PITA to round up the brevet numbers for all the rides you did to qualify if you didn't keep a running summary.

Probably easier now it's all on the web
