This is based off someone else's route on RWGPS and adjusted for Clitheroe. If you notice anything wrong with it, let me know and I can fix it up:

That track looks pretty accurate to me. Everyone who's entered should have by now received their event information and route sheet. If not let me know ASAP.

Entries still open as there's a reduced entry this year.

Hi Hippy
I downloaded your GPX onto my garmin etrex 30x but it only shows the first 470km. I assume because the file is too large. I have no idea how to split the track into sections. Can anyone help?

Gadget do you have basecamp - you can use the divide function to split it or the filter function to reduce the track size.  The other alternative is to run it through Phil W's track reduction programme which will also split the track if you want to, details here https://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=97952.0

Thanks JonB

I don't have basecamp. However, Andy P has reduced the waypoints to 9999 for me... looks ok on my garmin...

You can use an online tool or Garmin software to reduce the point count (https://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=80018.0).
I normally split my routes into 100-200k segments or maybe stages, given there's controls for audax so I will probably do that within RWGPS.
I'll post here when I've chopped it up.

I'm enjoying refreshing Epic Ride Weather for this one. Weather looks 'ok' this far out, though seems to change by the hour

Really? Clitheroe looks to be raining all night and morning and then there's the rest of it.. looks like rain most of first day and then more later.

I've booked a hotel but the Abort button is looking really tempting right now.

Does anyone want a hotel room for tonight? It's less the 2mi from the start.

Despite the treacherous weather conditions, 26 riders started the 5th (and possibly the last) edition of the Pendle 600.

I'll be catching up with them all at Langwathby later on tonight.

I did look at the radar this morning and at 6 AM the epicentre of the low was bang on over Burnley. Since then, it looks like it hasn't stopped raining... Will be interesting to see how many battle it through all the way.
Tomorrow looks better if it helps

As an aside, if you are planning to shelve the event, it would be nice to have a humane BP permanent version with 10 km/h minimum, or a SR, which is the same thing, but with more rules.
Failing that, I might have a go at the route as 3 x 200 km BR one day

At least 12 out of the 26 that started have dropped out, leaving 14 still going. Still awaiting the first riders back into Clitheroe.

Sounds like some congratulations are appropriate for those that finished.  Been a little further south in the Peak District all weekend and there is no way I would have fancied riding a bike in the weather we had, let alone over the Pendle terrain (I still get flashbacks to Conditions on hartside in 2013 when I rode the event).

Well done all and I hope those that couldn’t  make it all the way managed to find sensible exit strategies.
Right! What's next?

Ooooh. That sounds like a daft idea.  I am in!

Well that was a really epic ride. The weather was "inclement" from the 6am start on Saturday right through to around 4am on Sunday, with torrential rain and a block headwind for 300km right across from Robin Hoods Bay to Seascale.  On the top of the moors it dropped down to 4 degrees overnight, so some of the descents in particular were cold, despite wearing full winter kit. Many of the steep descents were very very dicey in the wet, with the tyres on the very limit of adhesion - more than once I was searching for a place to aim for for a soft landing as the tyres were locking up.

However, come Sunday morning, the sun came out and the day got nicer and nicer as it went on, and was in full June glory just in time for a very sweaty climb up Hardknott & Wrynose.

A realy epic event and not as hard as the 10,000m of climb suggests, as much (but not all!) of that climbing is nice steady gradients.

thanks Andy!

Oh that's good news, I was half considering DIYing this as unfinished business after scratching in 2019.

I've added a reminder to check next year. I think that will be enough time for the missus to have forgotten how much she loves hilly 600s ;)

The date for the 2023 edition is Saturday 10 June 2023. 6th time running of this very popular 612 km Audax event through the Pennine chain.

This 612 km Audax event follows a hilly, anti-clockwise circuit circling northern England. The event has a predicted 10000+ metres of climbing. Bag drop to Langwathby available. Enjoy an amphitheatre of scenery as you circumnavigate northern England passing through several National Parks including the Yorkshire Dales; North Yorks' Moors and the Lake District. Saturday sees the riders head north-easterly out of Lancashire, passing through the Ribble Valley before climbing over the North Yorks' Moors to the east coast. The northern Pennines follow, where a food/sleep station has been arranged at 392 km. After clearing the Langwathby control, riders will be into the Lake District; climbing over some legendary Lakeland passes including: Whinlatter; Hardknott and Wrynose. The final run into the finish passes through the Trough of Bowland.

Start: Clitheroe, Lancashire
Time: 06:00 am
Entry fee: £21

Event website:

https://burnleyccevents.com/pendle-600-2/

The event counts as a 600 km qualifier for PBP!

Is it possible for an admin to remove the date from this thread title, since it's basically the "Pendle 600k" thread now.

How are most people getting there - car or train? Train would be nicer option but more $$ as I'd need accommodation the night before.
I'm thinking maybe drive up and sleep in the car the night before near the HQ - anyone done that? Anyone looking to share a hotel room?
