Smoky BACON.

They taste neither of smoke nor BACON and indeed I shudder to think just what actually goes into them, but I'm fairly sure one of the ingredients is crack cocaine as they would otherwise not be as addictive as they are.

It's the salt. Kinda works like this...

10 You drink BEER
20 BEER gives you the munchies
30 You nom some crisps
40 The salt and "flavour enhancers" make you thirsty
50 GOTO 10

I like that in Austria, Croatia and (I think) Germany, the only flavours of crisps you can get are salted or paprika.

Yummy !

Zweifel Paprika. Available only in Switzerland as far as I can make out and the best crisps in the world.  We brought four jumbo packets back with us at the weekend.

I  recently discovered the joy of munching through an entire family sized bag of sweet chilli walkers sensations - they go really well with sour cream dip.

Plain 'ready salted'.  Preferably kettle chips or something decent, and especially not Walkers, which have switched to some sort of sinister genetically-modified sunflower oil that reduces your cholesterol by tasting horrid so you eat fewer crisps.

Yeah, totally agree with this.

Walkers are just wrong. Too lightweight, the oil tastes funny and the ready salted flavour have far too much salt on them.

I prefer old Walkers to new Walkers, and I like salt n vinegar or smokey non-bacon best but will settle for ready salted if need be. In the pub I quite like Brannigans ham n pickle.

Seabrooks, but I don't think they taste like they used to.

Frazzles.

Kettle Chips salt and vinegar (sea salt and balsamic vinegar to be wanky precise) or sour cream and chive.
With a pint of Ginger Marble it's my usual Wednesday night, post 5-a-side recovery meal.

I'll also add this post to the other thread.

I hadn't noticed.  I love Seabrooks.  Best. Crisps. Ever.

Cheese and onion is the best flavour, closely followed by Beefy.  I used to love KP crisps, by the way, but I haven't seen them in years :(

The best crisps are Taytos.

If I could only have one... if Tayto, cheese and onion. If not... plain salted.

For basic crisps- Cheese and Onion of whatever make.

For AbFab crisps- Walkers Sweet Thai Chilli or those new(ish) spicey Pringles.

I do remember abot 10-15 years ago you could get "Really Ruthless Crisps" of varying flavours. I can't remeber what they were but I used to get the multi packs and enjoyed them tremendously. Something like chilli and vinegar flavour or similar. reall squinty making hits

I've just had a thought. I think it shall be my mission today to get a few bags of Monster Munch! Haven't had those for years. Pickled onion flavour was the best. I remember them costing 6p when I was a kid. I'm guessing they're a bit more than that these days  :(

Last night I was going to rewrite that into a proper programming language, but:

a. I couldn't be arsed.
b. Most people wouldn't get it.
c. It wouldn't get me laid.

So I went down the pub.

I'm sure someone will do it though. Is GB bored at the moment?  :P

One thing that I saw claimed, I think, on a TV program a few years back is that a lot of the roast chicken/smoky bacon/beef/cheese and onion type flaours are actually extremely hard to identify blind, and fairly hard to tell apart even in comparison.  I did try it with a few and I certainly had difficulty telling what was what without the packet.

Although I already voted for Marmite, cheese and onion comes a strong second place.  I used to really love the KP ones in yellow packets.  The Seabrooks cheese and onion flavouring reminds me of those somewhat.

Plain are my preferred choice. Preferably kettle chips or similar. Salt and vinegar I reserve for a crisp sandwich in plain white bread ala Julian. When drinking beer I sometimes flirt with cheese and onion. Mrs Pcolbeck is a great fan of cracked black pepper or sea salt and balsamic vinegar type crisps, I hate them. Mind you she even went and bought some balsamic vinegar type stuff for use on fish and chips, I retaliated by insisting we got a new bottle of standard Hammonds malt vinegar, I think she might be going all middle class on me :)
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.
