After 12 years in retirement, Kasparov has decided to play in a tournament at St. Louis.
I hope this doesn't turn out to be a big mistake. Chess players' abilities tend to lessen past the age of 30. Kasparov is generally regarded as the greatest player of all time and it would be a shame to reappear as an also-ran. The last time I looked, Nigel Short was the oldest player in the World Top 100, and he's about the same age as Kasparov.

There's Short's record in recent years. If he doesn't play a few games soon he will be dropping out of the ranking lists.
