Piano disposal
« on: 11 March, 2018, 12:20:26 pm »
I cannot give away my Danemann upright, but it has to go.

I have freecycled it without success and offered it to community groups too. No luck.

Are there companies which collect them? Any ideas?

Gumtree can be a success where Freecycle/Freegle fails.

Yes, it's not a bad instrument. It does need a tune though, as its ivories haven't been tickled in a while.

Get some chimps to take it away - they'll need tea!

Most local authorities will take away large household items for disposal for a small fee.  Seems a shame though.

Pianos maker interesting pinging noises if you burn them. In facty i am surprised John Cage hasn't recorded one.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

My father disposed of our piano in the middle fifties.  We heaved it over the road then tipped it down the adjacent quarry.  Interesting pinging noises were heard and seen.

I think pianos may exceed the LA maximum weight.

It is an enormous shame. Danemanns are perfectly decent instruments.

There is a piano auction every 3 months in London, at Conway Hall. Someone might bid for it.

What colour is it? This is relevant. One dealer I spoke to said he could sell any piano as long as it's shiny black polyester. The memorable comment was "Look at that Boston*. It may sound like a bag of nails but I could sell any number of those."

Could you donate it to a railway station?  Mordor Central could do with cheering up...

Perhaps a young couple that have just come down from university might like to hire it for the summer . . . and get people dancing?

Gumtree seems to have found a taker. Due for collection tomorrow - apparently. Gumtree is notorious for time wasters!

And of course Warwickshire is geographically pretty close to Ambridge. I'd drop the editor a line to see if they want it as a prop...

Trebuchet?

 ;D ;D

We donated our to the village hall.  They had some funds and got it tuned a couple of times, and its still in service about 15 years later.
