We found sealing the overflow with cling film and holding that in place with a gloved hand ensured the air didn't just loop round and escape out of the overflow so created an airtight system for the plunger to work properly.

Has this blockage been sorted yet the anticipation is proving too much.

I find sink plunging strangely satisfying.

Marginally off topic, is there anyone else who owns a plunger for unblocking a bog?

That really is a satisfying feeling!

A couple of times it has been my malodorous duty to clear days', or possibly weeks' worth of backed up shit and bog paper from one of our drains/manhole covers. It is far from being my favourite job, but once complete it is one that affords immense job satisfaction of a kind that I have rarely achieved in teaching...

No plunger for unblocking the bog here, so no experience thereof.
However, whilst bemoaning to one of my work colleagues, that my evening chores, that particular evening, included unblocking my blocked bog, his reply was 'You live alone, don't you?'
To which I replied 'Yes'.
His reply was 'Well, at least it is just your own shit you have to deal with'.
Fair comment.

Interested parties might like to know that said sink emitted a rather vulgar belching sound and miraculously unblocked itself on Saturday.  Just when I was addressing the toolbox.

Surely the way to clear a sink is to remove the "U bend" clear it and re-install. Not a massive job by any means.
