Ironically, our postman left ours behind a dead front door which I have yet to take to the tip.

January's is very beautiful.

Amazed that Heeley Road doesn't feature.  It was always pretty scummy and full of student houses.  Do students still have houses, or are they all being reamed by the university for hall fees?

I have Heeley Road fridges in my collection, but the narrow pavement and proliferation of parked cars means they aren't very good photos.

Yeah, pretty much everything between the Raddlebarn Road and the uni is 90% student HMOs.  Landlords are steadily upgrading them with dormer windows and cardboard walls to 6 en-suite rooms, much to the delight of the local electricity grid.  Hence all the discarded fridges.

Meanwhile, some commercial rabbit-hutches with woefully inadequate WiFi[1] have sprung up in the Grange Road area.

[1] This has caused all sorts of problems as covid caused the students to suddenly need to do vast amounts of video conferencing.

You could pimp them on the UoB Faecebook group.

Just wondering if there's going to be a 2024 version.

Greater value for money as there's an extra day...

I've been slacking in the fridge-spotting department of late, but Sunday's ride yielded a Dawlish Road double-fridge bonus, so anything's possible...

It seems that not all those mattresses are in Walthamstow...

Quote
Gemma describes her former east London neighbourhood of Walthamstow as “the epicentre for abandoned furniture”.

“You would find huddles of mattresses loitering like they owned the streets, like mini gangs. I even made a film about them.

“The calendar started in 2011 as part of an art exhibit I did. I didn’t think anyone would buy them so I just got five printed. I then got 60 pre-orders from local residents. People just keep buying them.

“I now have customers all over the world. I thought everyone would be bored of it by now.

“When I moved to Bedminster last year, I was saddened by the lack of street mattresses, but the short supply was very photogenic as it would get tagged or beautified; even Bristol fly-tipping got gentrified.

“Last summer I was worried I didn’t have enough good mattresses for the calendar so I went on day trips to different parts of Bristol.

“It was great getting to know the different areas and I was happy to find that Easton was the mattress mothership delivering six mattresses in 60 minutes.”.

Yes, I suspected she’d moved due to the Several of pictures of not-Walthamstow mattresses that have popped up on the Tourist Board's Farcebok page int the last year or two.

Has anyone looked to see if there's a portal that leads from Walthamstow to the marshes of Sqornshellous Zeta?

I think it’s round the back of the former police station on Forest Road.

I could probably manage Flat Pack Furniture of Swindon.  Chipboard looks particularly rank after a few days of rain.

So, I think I've drummed up some custom for a couple of '24 ones if you do...

Okay, because I've been somewhat busy with other things, the 2024 Fridges Of Selly Oak calendar will be a half-arsed last-minute Exclusive! Limited edition! print run of ten items, on a first come first served basis.  £14.60 posted because the postage has gone up and I didn't get it to the printers two months ago.

PM (or email) me if you want one.
