Help needed valuing some guitars
« on: 27 May, 2023, 02:34:47 pm »
Want to help my SiL sell my BiL's (RIP) guitar equipment, and I could do with some help understanding the right price. She wants to sell quickly, and looking around at s/h prices doesn't really work for that. Also, I'm thinking of buying the Washburn so I'd want to have a fair price for both. Any help and advice gratefully received - if there was a fair dealer around the Coventry area, that might be the best option.

Washburn X50-Pro Q

Ibanez SDGR Bass

Boss BCB-60 board and a few pedals

Roland Cube B30 Bass Amp

I would have thought doing an ebay search for sold items will give you a decent ballpark figure.

Once you have that, Facebook Marketplace is a good free option for selling. Cash in your hand, buyer collects.

The problem is, I'm not selling them (currently - I can see that changing  ::-) ) - SiL is in Coventry and doesn't like the idea of people coming around, and I can't say I blame her. Someone that understands the value of instruments may be able to make sense of the potential range of values (and of course, anyone is at liberty to make an offer)

Washburn X50-Pro Q

So, probably £280-320 private sale

The bass is worth about £130-180, I think.

Amp, about £65-100

(without meaning to sound dismissive, the guitars and amp are mass market and low end of the market, so probably not worth fretting over too much-pun intended)

Boss Pedals are all good quality and they tend to go for £50-70

Thanks, just the sort of info I was after, not sure how it will all play out.

I think your estimated values will be helpful except for the two pedals on the left, the Loop Station and the Digital Delay. You might like to revist those two as I would add £100 to your valuation, if the pedals have their original boxes and user manuals.

You are correct that they are slightly more valuable that the other two, but I did do some homework. There are 135 of the DD3 that have been sold on eBay UK.  Only 6 sold for over £100, and only 1/135 sold for the price you suggest

On Facebook market place they are not selling for over £75, boxed or not. As you can see from this screenshot people are reducing prices because of this.

As ever, value is what somebody is prepared to pay for something. You might get lucky, but the odds are against it.

OK, it looks like I'm lumbered with all the stuff, now. At Roadrunner's suggestion, I've joined Fretboard, I'm currently overrun with:

2 x Acoustic guitars in hard cases
1 x bass guitar
3 x practice amps (1 bass, 2 ordinary, I'll keep one)
That pedal board case
Some mics
A video projector
Plus assorted cables chargers etc

And, the Washburn electric which is now mine.

Done some fettling, cleaning and re-stringing

I need to get this stuff moving.....

What models are the acoustics?

I shouldn't be asking this; I already have too many guitars.

A Tanglewood TW28SN and an Aria LM12HB (? May not have read that last right)

They are likely 15+ years old, but frankly, I don't know. The Aria says "Made in Japan"

Generally good nick, photos to be taken later.

Maybe he just has a bike without a guitar to carry on it?

Aria LM12HB (? May not have read that last right)

That may be LW12HB, Ham.

In good condition with hard cases I would guess it is worth asking £140 for the Tanglewood and £160 for the Aria, + or - depending on how quickly you want them to sell and how much you are willing to be negotiated down.

Thanks rr, that's really useful, and yes it must be LW12HB - the M/W is quite blurred and could be either and yes I would want to price for quick sale. Looking closely, the Aria isn't in as good condition as the Tanglewood.

If I was buying and spotted that one of these was not in good condition for its age I would likely start with an offer £40 to £60 cheaper. Be honest in your descriptions and photos and you are less likely to make a buyer feel upset.

I am certain Hot Flatus, fruitcake and PaulF all have valuable thoughts on pricing these two guitars.

Aria LW12HB?

Likely older than 15 years. Potentially 40. Aria is/was a decent Japanese mass-market producer, before everything went to Indonesia/Vietnam etc. Could be anything from £100 upwards to £250 max.

That Washburn looks great though doesn't it. I can see the appeal for you, Ham.

I have to keep telling myself, I do not need another dreadnought acoustic. (I'm doing well, aren't I?).
