I remember reading the original article in The Sun (we only read shite tabloids and music papers when we were students) although I think it was the Grauniad, with its usual legendary accuracy, that started it and was the main target of the defamation case.

IIRC the actual name of the cabin boy is either Tom or Colin depending on whether it's the TV series or the book spin-offs.
Hard work sometimes pays off in the end, but laziness ALWAYS pays off NOW.

Mad. The Guardian libel case passed me by. Crazy that they would have actually published that story when it's so easily verified.

Some of us knew it was nonsense from the very first time we heard it. I once got into a very heated argument with a friend because I insisted that he was wrong and the cabin boy was actually called Tom but he wasn't having it.  ::-)

IIRC Mary Ann “George Eliot” Evans was somewhat scathing about Coventry, considering it to be a bit behind the times :)
