Mozilla Thunderbird playing up - help please
« on: 25 March, 2009, 01:40:25 pm »
My email has been acting strange this morning. First, my inbox was taking ages to load, now, when I try to open Thunderbird, it's taking me to a "New Account Setup".
 ???
I can't seem to open the existing one. Any ideas. please!
It's a bit weird, but actually quite wonderful.

There has been a security fix issued maybe your OS has upgraded and toasted it!

Just rung the ISP. They have a recorded message on their helpline saying they are aware of problems with emails sometimes timing out. Should I be relieved or more worried?

Meanwhile, I'm holding on the speak to a real person, secure in the knowledge that my call is important to them.  ::-) :-\

Why is Tbird wanting a new a/c setup when your ISP is having problems? One has nothing to do with the other.

I agree that your ISP email server problems are unlikely to be the cause of your Thunderbird trouble.

It sounds to me like your Thunderbird profile has become corrupt or "got lost" somehow.

TB stores all of your emails, server settings etc in a user profile which is loaded when the application is first started. If it can't find one, or is unable to read a corrupted one, then it will prompt you to set up a new account.

Are you still on hold?

I had this happen once with Thunderbird. Like Gruff's link says, it was the profile that had temporarily gone missing. I followed the steps and got it back.

So stop worrying.  ;)

???   ;D  No, I spoke to someone at the ISP, eventually. Not our problem, matey.

So, yes, Gruff, many thanks for the link. It does look promising, and I'll go through it later tonight, once I have time to be calm. Would a glass of wine help me?  ;)
