Understanding laptop capacity

Here's a dumb blonde computing questions.  Any help gratefully received.  What is the difference between 8GB flash drive and 120GB hard drive and which is the fastest processor?

An 8GB flash drive is usually a USB removable drive for moving files between PCs & looks like this Kingston 8GB USB 2.0 Data Traveler Flash Drive - Ebuyer

A 120GB HDD is fitted internally & isn't removable, It's where Windows is installed.

Concerning flash drives in netbooks: as the driving feature of netbooks tends to be price, you'll normally end up with a pretty low-end solid state drive, which don't tend to give you the speed advantages over hard drives that more expensive solid state drives would.

I would say that 8Gb is fine if you're not going to be installing a lot of software, or don't want to store a lot of music, pictures or video on it. If it is intended to be your primary PC, 120Gb might be better.

As always, whatever size of drive you have, make sure that you regularly back up your important data somehow!

Regarding your processor speed question - neither are related to processor speed - only to the ammount of programs/data you can store on the drive.

To compare processor speed, you need (first) to look at the clock speed (GHz rating) - although this is only a very crude comparison, because different processors with the same GHz can have dramatically different performance. For example - a dual core processor will be MUCH faster than a single core at the same clock speed.

If you really want to compare processor speeds, you need to find out which processor is installed, and use a comparison site like:
