Old CDs to Ipod - track running order?
« on: 03 April, 2009, 06:33:23 am »
I'm trying to load some old story CDs onto an ipod - Stig of the Dump / Enid Blyton / Ballet Shoes type thing for train journey purposes.

I can get the CDs and all tracks into itunes but how then to collect the tracks into an 'album' and get them played in the correct order?  At present I've tried creating a playlist for each CD, and that works well to make sure all the relevant tracks are together - and I've linked the tracks too.  Playback though simply runs the tracks in a playlist in random order.

I'm sure that I must be able to do better than this?

You need to edit the mp3 file meta data
Edit MP3 metadata with Mp3tag for free

(Ignore the ad at the top - link to free software is lower down)

I assume the CD's are not listed in the online database?

per Tony really. Edit the tags to put the track number in.  Don't forget to put lead zero in single digit number.

Really silly question - is shuffle play turned on ?

If you want the whole CD as it it is, when copying it to itunes (it is via itunes?) under the "advanced" menu you can select "join cd tracks"

hmm, thanks - I'll have a look.

shuffle is not on!

I have linked the tracks - but they still play in random order.

I'll try the meta tag thingy

After they're 'in there' Maggers, you can also swap how they play in order (top most plays first) by dragging any song (click on the line with your mouse) and pull it up or down depending on where you want to drop it. Above one particular track or below another.

Now I do have an import settings thing on my 'general' tab.
 (updated software)

I'm losing the will to live - but now its offered to do some converting, so I'm letting it do that and then I'll see what happens.

Thanks for the draggn drop tip re order of tracks - my issue is that irrespective of the prder as visible in a play list, the beast just jumped around them (no - shuffle not on!)

using my work laptop and an updated itunes and an older ipod - got it sorted, thanks.

Just the old laptop/new ipod combo to sort now - perhaps the new nano things have a secret shuffle?
