Wish I knew?
The transfer on the headstock says 'Croysdale Made in England' and the frame tubing is butted steel 'Ishiwata 0245'
The frame is a beautifully made and finished lugged job that I guess was made in the 1970s
If anyone knows anything at all about 'Croysdale' I'd love to hear from them.

Quite a lot of frame are made in Taiwan, I think I have heard that Giant (or Trek, I forget) is the manufacturer of many other "high street" names.

I was told by a Giant rep that most Giants / Treks / Carreras and Boardmans are made in the same factory, the only Treks made in the usa are the carbons.

Was looking at a Boardman hybrid on Sat and the frame looked the same as a Carrera to be honest even down to the design of the dropouts.

Have also been told that the cheaper Specializeds are made by Merida.

The boys at Mercians for my favourite two, with some help from a small builder working for Orbit. who started one, back in the days...

The others all in Taiwan I would think.

And Carrera now do a full on TT bike for under a grand (but the wheels are not proper TT wheels).

Carrera arent made by Giant or Merida any more

I found this out when trying to source a gear hanger for a Carrera Subway, I rang Merida and they reported that they had fell out with Halfrauds a few years previously and no longer carried spares.

Best guess is they had the designs reverse engineered and farmed out the frame building to the lowest bidder in mainland China or Vietnam.

For one of mine I've got the job card (somewhere) with the names of the blokes who designed the bike, chose the tubes, cut the tubes, faced the tubes, did the welding.. etc.    Quite cool.

Well, somewhere I have a card with the name of the frame builder who built my Raleigh.
The Dave Russell was built by Dave Russell
The Dave Yates was built by Dave Yates and my latest bike was built by me...round at Dave Yates' place.

Classics either finished or in progress
-Some Japanese welding at Miyata (2 Koga Miyata's)
-Woodrup
-an unknown craftsman at Gloria in Milano.

The Brompton was made by Brompton.
The Enigma was made in Taiwan.

Really?  That's interesting.  I think that Thorn's bikes are several leagues below Woodrups for beauty though.  Oh - was Kevin there in 1980/1?

I'll ask him. You should see his own frames. Fantastic craftsmanship.

Look at the frame number, if it's on the left side of the BB it's a Sayles built frame.

Please do - and, if he made my Giro, tell him I'm very grateful.  It's beautiful and a brilliant ride. :D

Edit:  It is on the left side, and it's 4918.

Langster - Taiwan
Santos Tandem - not sure at all? I doubt it's Dutch.
Mal Rees - now there's a mystery. I wish it was a Bill Hurlow, but it's got simpler Prugnat lugs, so almost certainly not.
Orbit Tandem number 1 - someone in Dudley and the brazing is absolute crap.
Orbit Tandem number 2 - presume someone in Taiwan - it's a Sheffield origin Routier model.
Enigma Etape - Taiwan
Dahon Mu XL - Taiwan
Ribble Training Frame - Italian bot.

AFAIK Santos uses belgian framebuilders.
