Shipping bike frame to Australia
« on: 05 July, 2009, 08:25:24 am »
What's the cheapest way?  Tried ParcelForce and UPS and they want a fortune.   Box size is 26cm x 110 x 68 and weighs less than 5kg.

Thanks for any help.

The cheapest way is to have somebody who is already flying to Australia to take it in their luggage.  There is no cheap option that I know about, the cubic is what kills transporting frames internationally.
Wheel meet again, don't know where, don't know when...

Get a smaller box.

100x64x22cm 5kg is £106 by DHL (air) via p4d.  Insurance would cost extra.

I can't remember the size of the box but I sent a Bob Jackson fixed-wheel frame to Oz for £103.99 back in April using Parcelforce. I e-mailed the prices to the buyer (twas ebay) and I've copied and pasted the prices here as a guide;

Parcelforce - £88.89 (International Economy 42-61 days)

Parcelforce - £106.99 (International Standard 7-10 days)

Parcelforce - £113.59 (Global Priority 9 days)

Parcelforce - £128.69 (International Datapost 8 days)

DHL - £162.00 (up to 6 days)

UPS - £188.00 (can't remember delivery but nothing special and their other option was >£220!!).

The final price was just a bit cheaper.

Many thanks Biggsy for the P4D recommendation.  Frame ended up going to Italy - ebay sale - and P4D were way cheaper than any other shippers.   Didn't know about them but glad I do now.

You're welcome.

I hope it arrives ok.  Things are prone to getting lost in Italy, though hopefully a courier is safer than the ordinary post.

Yes, I had read horror stories about Italian postal service but it went to a bike shop in Milan and was received.  Two days delivery with DHL.  I think courier service is OK there.
