My local M&S has bottles of 10 year old South African brandy "Van Ryn's" for £20, so I took a chance. Nice smooth drinking & a google shows me it's well regarded & wins awards & stuff. I might pop back & buy a few more (for presents....)

McEwans Champion Whisky Edition 5.8%.
Nice dark ale with added whisky. Not too much whisky to overpower the beer flavours,and it's surprisingly mellow.

Laphroaig Whisky Mac for the cold - I know some might say it's a waste of a good Islay, but the sweetness and the peatiness work quite nicely together.

Well that's very different to the first flush. A strong family resemblance but a much more malty drink.
Some people like first flush and some second flush best. I am in the first flush camp I think.

A lovely Aberlour single malt. Quite why people waste good money on the vastly inferior Glenfiddich i dont know. Well i do, its brand recognition.

I nearly didn't try it because of its silly (to English speakers) name. Found on the shelves of Mr Leclec's store of toothy comestibles and combustibles (amongst everything else) a bottle of Art Maniak. It was only when I noticed that Janneau was the brand that I read the label more carefully. It's a blended Armagnac, and a rather nice blended armagnac reminiscent in its way of Chivas, for round and about €20 a bottle, I commend it to the house.

If anyone can find it sold online, I would be interested, I haven't.

That's a mistake which I cannot see myself repeating.

Depends on the alcohol free beer. What did you have? I quite like Nanny State, and have taken to having one of those when I've already had a few drinks but am not ready for bed yet but don't want a hangover in the morning. It doesn't feel like not beer if I don't think about it too much.

I've tried Nanny State, like all alcohol-free beer, it just seems to miss something. I suppose if you think of it as non-beer it might be OK (although this doesn't work for Carling and Stella). But as a substitute? Nah. If I'm not drinking booze I'd rather just have something else.

Not right now cos at work but Sunday evening...
A really nice homemade plum and caramel vodka. Not usually my sort of thing but this had the balance between the sweet caramel and the tart plum to perfection.
Could have been very dangerous.

Today: Aperol spritz, and the Fuller's and Friends Fullers/Fourpure collaboration - a nice dry-hopped lager.

*Do we have a better name for these yet - dark hopped ale or something?

Just finished my last bottle of Japanese koshu wine; bought 12 from M&S online a year or more ago.

Just ordered 6 bottles, from a different vineyard, from another online wine supplier.
