Essex yacf Christmas Do 2011
« on: 10 October, 2011, 08:57:14 pm »
Time to start the Christmas Pud rolling: If we're going to book somewhere for a meal on a Friday/Saturday it'll need to be done fairly soon, I reckon. So lets have your thoughts.

Some of mine: 1) Open to all yacfers as in previous years, plus civilians and camp-followers.

                           2) I really enjoyed Oscar's Dad's musical ride in 2009.

                           3) I want to do another FYBO [Freeze Your Bits Off] weekend, but perhaps thats for another time, along with the already mooted Peddar's Way Revisited.

                           4) We haven't been to the Jalsa Ghar recently.

How exciting.

Last year:

I liked the big table affair with everyone facing into the middle.

I liked sleeping in a building rather than a tent.

Food was good last year too, perhaps we could go back and ask nicely if anyone has seen Oaky's helmet mounted Christmas tree.

Please avoid the 16th December.

That said the company of yous lot is what makes it a cracking evening, so I'll go with the flow.

Aye - that was us.

Very good it was too.  I'm just surprised we made it out of Henham in one piece.

The more I think about it the more I'm liking the idea of a Xmas curry.  Reindeer Kushbo, anyone?

Maybe it's just been too long since I've had a curry?

Funny!

So, I can see a plan forming. We extend the Peddars Way to Great Dunmow, cycle along the full length with a mobile disco in the snow. Ambitious but do-able.

Sensible suggestion: the White Horse at Edwardston has a campsite and 2 log cabins that can be rented thus covering all the bases???

So....we need a campsite in/near Dunmow [that's not my back garden!] The Three Horseshoes at Molehill Green might still allow camping, but its right at the end of Stansted's runway! But...we can get part of the way there by continuing on the Flitch Way.

Brill though last year was I wouldn't dare to try and repeat it :o the best bits were unplanned!

Cross post with OD...yes of course, the White Horse, which was also excellent for the FYBO camp.

All the December weekend are ok for me, but I see the Essex CTC Xmas meet is on Sunday 11th, so, being ambitious, I could do both ? !

Last year was absolutely splendid.

The Edwardstone White Horse is a good place and they brew their own beer - but I have to say that in my view the beer isn't quite up to the standard of some of the better-known brands from Maldon or South Woodham Ferrers, for example. It's a fine ride from Marks Tey, which I think would be my preference. I would definitely prefer a building to a tent when it comes to sleeping arrangements. Alternatively, if suitable accommodation is available, the Jalsar Ghar would be hard to beat.

I'm in.

I will probably bring my consort ;D

ETA: I'd prefer the weekend of the 17th, but I'll probably venture out whenever & wherever it is

10th/11th would be out for me, but 3/4 or 17/18 are possibles.

I definitely want to do a proper FYBO camping, when it's decently cold though (Jan/Feb perhaps).  I'm less fussed as to whether we are camping on the xmas do or not (happy either way).

Chances are I won't be able to make it for various reasons, but this at least gets my name in the thread

I think there are a few pubs that brew their own who would be better pubs if they didn't. The King's Head in Bildeston is one such. I think the White Horse brews a better pint than they do.

My consort has a couple of issues
i) he's not a fan of curry1
ii) no one has yet mentioned FANCY DRESS

Just to confirm, This is FANCY DRESS again yeah2? My consort wont get out of wearing elf ears/ silly hats/ tinkerbell wand and fairy lights, o no sir-ee.

1: I suspect we may be able to ply him with sufficient beer he doesn't notice it's curry
2: Apart from Wow, who is in costume all year, obv

Is there any other sort of dress?

I'm assuming "Dirty Santa" will put in an appearance again too.
