New individual pursuit record
« on: 02 February, 2011, 09:17:26 am »
Jack Bobridge has ridden a 4.10.534 individual pursuit in the Australian championships, beating Chris Boardman's 4.11.114 from 1996 achieved using the Obree-inspired superman position.

A Wiggins v Bobridge IP final in 2012 would have been something to look forward to, but between them  he IOC and UCI have scuppered that prospect.

Incredible ride by Bobridge.

It is very sad that the IP is no longer in the Olympics - it's such a pure event. It also means that British Cycling no longer focus on it seriously so there's no chance of Wiggins or anyone else having a real crack at it.

Given the iconic status of the running mile (4 minute barrier and-all-that), you'd thing the appeal of this event would be obvious even to the non-cyclists.

Very odd decision. What is left as the 'blue riband' event? (The Hour is the big one in pure record terms, for me.)
Has never ridden RAAM
