Re-furbish a saddle?
« on: 26 May, 2008, 11:17:28 am »
Have a more than 15 year old but rather comfy Avocet O2 Air 40 Titanium saddle I'd like to breath new life into and fit a new skin as I'd like a light one on my speedy bike. Anyone here that has some good tips on what type of skin, glue or/and staples, wise, "tactic" etc should one use?  ???

Edit: change some info.

We don't know what is wrong with your saddle yet.  ::-)  Have you crashed it and scraped off some leather, padding and plastic shell?  Have you worn through the leather but everything underneath is fine?  Does the leather look a little tired?

Give us a hint.  ;)

the  glue should be something like this one water resistant and flexible.
I think you can use most types of skin/leather as long it's  thin.

Oh, sorry! That part were "lost in translation"! :-[
Skin's worn and glue is bad so it's coming of in some parts. Already glued some parts, but I was thinking that if I could get some new skin I could recycle it. Instead of buying a new plastic one that cost three times as much but only last a third as long.
So what's the verdict, doc? Will it live?  ;)

Peter why dont you try finding a "skomakar" and ask him if he could refurbish it
for a modest cost.

Then just ask for advice and a piece of leather that should have been binned.
It might cost you 25 SKr.
