Spanninga rear lamp solo / duxo / lineo
« on: 17 December, 2014, 10:46:16 pm »
There is a new low cost line-style Spanninga solo dynamo rear lamp:

I emailed them and they have confirmed it exceeds the 4cd minimum of the BS6102/3 standard al althought just  German approved (satisfys EU equiv clause) and RKF 3 dutch marking means >=4candelas.

It would fit the Brompton upside down:

but it seems upside down compared to Spanningas own photos:
so unless designed to allow that (like the Arcus was) (they don't mention it) presumably this negates the approval.  Bahh

There is an AA variant, the Duxo, but it seems possibly less bright:  no RKF 3 rating and 400m visibilty vs 500m

Perhaps the lineo would suit the Brompton if the mudguard is narrower than the gap between the light elements?

My understanding is that the 4cd requirement is for non-BS-approved flashing (and only flashing) lights.  But the German and Dutch approval ought to be sufficient anyway.

Could be nice on the non-rack models.  With a rack (and especially one with easy wheels (why would anyone want a rack without them?)), you want the light source to be a central as possible, so as not to be obscured by the rack sides/wheels.

The 4cd is my just preference because it matches the BS level, so the equivalence is more obvious to in-surer-ants lawyers. :)

Does that look like a spanninga solo rear lamp on electric Brompton?

...Yes, it appears the rear lamp is indeed a Spanninga solo:
BUT mounted conventionally with the LED lowest:

A pity it isn't mounted the other way up?

I kind of presumed Brompton would ask Spanninga to resubmit / modify it so that it was German ~K approved either way up, so that led is more visible....

The Duxo XB just fits my L-type with eazi-wheels...

Hopefully more robust than the  Arcus Xb(a).....

Bahh, my Duxo XB has been lost due to a country road bump, leaving only the backplate*, although possibly partly my fault, maybe I dislodged a clip adjusting it for a night ride, which it survived.

*The battery containing main body detaches from this plate to access/replace battery cells: this seems not the most obvious design so its replacement will be gaining additional stick on velcro reinforcement (I rely on another BS reflector for legality).
