Just started Boat Story (BBC). Very good so far. If you liked The Following Events... and We Hunt Together you'll probably like this.

I literally cannot remember the last time I saw decent comedy on TV (apart from stand up). Where has it all gone?

Wot? No Mrs Brown's Boys?

I'm watching it now (2/6). Apart from the time capsule thing which seems nonsense (but is central to the whole thing) I'm enjoying it very much. And, so far, I'm following what's going on. Which is more than I can say about Shetland.

The time capsule thing is very australian. We buried them at school when I was a kid, in the 70s.

Background to sugar cane burning.

When the cane was cut by hand, they only burnt it if the field was infested with snakes, rats and cane toads. Mostly rats. Once burnt, the cane has to get to the refinery within hours, so puts the pressure on the cutters.

there are narrow gauge railways built just to take cane from the fields to the refinery.

Mechanical harvesters struggled to cope with the leaves on the cane, so they started burning it to make it easier to cut by machine.

The modern version of indentured workers still exists in Australia. Quite a lot of PNG workers are brought over, paid sod all, and kept in farm accommodation.

OT: From what I saw they now shear the green tops off mechanically before cutting and chopping the cane into tractor pulled cages.

It was the 'to be dug up in 25 years' aspect of it that seemed implausible. To me.

It's a decent plot, but their depiction of the RAF is cringeworthy.

I presume it’s as accurate as their time in a submarine last season.

Most likely, and that’s why we never completed episode 2 of season 1. It wasn’t as creaky as “The Rig” though, so you can guess how bad that was!

I've just worked out that the air base in 'Wudyan' is Kenitra Air Base, near Rabat in Morocco (a former US Navy air base). I wonder if the Moroccan Air Force realised how much of their base would end up on prime-time TV?

I guess it’s on iPlayer Dark Hearts a French made series set in Iraq. Excellent so far (6 out of 8).

Maybe they knew full well? It's not like they filmed in the dark, or with hidden cameras ...

Tomorrow the second series of The Tourist commences. We enjoyed the first, and despite the relocation from Outback to Ireland are looking forward to this series.

I have struggled to find something good on either streaming or TV in a while now.

We’ve just watched the last bits of Vigil. It got more watchable, but no more credible.

Digging for Britain with Alice Roberts is back this evening.
Three episodes this week and three next week, I think

Part of the problem with BBC dramas like this is the appalling standard of acting. The look like they are phoning it in.

You can't please everyone!
In the last episode I got quite teary-eyed at the two reunion scenes between loved ones. Beautifully done, IMHO!

Hmmm, I tend to shy away from ITV dramatisations of true stories but I did listen to the BBC Radio 4 documentary The Great Post Office Trial, which had a similar effect.

As so often seems to be the case, the main perpetrators have still not been brought to justice.  >:(

A heads up. Series 2 of Big Boys starts Sunday week (14th) on Ch4. If it’s half as good as series 1 it’ll be excellent.
