Missing partition

I have a dual boot Ubuntu 7.10/Windows ME PC. One of the HDs' partitions seems to have 'lost' its file/directory structure.
What I mean is that the partition is visible in both Ubuntu & Windows but the folders & files cannot be seen. Both OSs report that the partition is not empty, i.e. they claim there is xMB/yMb free space on the disk.
Any ideas what could be wrong
I haven't changed the partitions' names, sizes or whatever. I have been mounting & unmounting partitions in an attempt cure my previous
problem
, though.

File Scavenger
is good for recovering data from partitions that have taken a knock. I don't know what might have caused your problems but I suspect this program will show you the files and folders so that you can copy them.
