wifi on Ubuntu (8.04) slow
« on: 24 May, 2008, 01:43:22 pm »
My wifi on my laptop have just grinned to a halt over the last 2-3 days, reminds me of the old dial up days, when I plug in the LAN i get the full use of my asdl line again.

The wifi shows 95% connection, and I haven't changed anything to my system other than the ubuntu updates.

Anyone have an idea why this is ?

Someone else's wireless network on a similar channel ? If the router's still on the default channel 11, shift it to one at least 4 away and see if that helps.

Otherwise if you have a firewall on the laptop try turning that off.

If all that fails, try temporarily switching off the security on the wireless; I have heard that some WEP/WPA support is less good in  the latest Ubuntu.

Thanks MV, I changed the channel to 7, it was on 1, and the speed is back to normal :)
