Wow.  I'm  a bit gobsmacked as I didn't think he would come back.

Sounds unlikely.  He's out of training (he's looked porky normal in recent photos), very old (although not quite Gilbert Duclos-Lasalle old, I suppose) and his reputation is at stake if he doesn't win the TdF.

Astana?

You'd think anybody anybody with any credibility left would run a mile if approached by this team. But again and again, no.

WTF?

Radio 5 have just reported this too. Weird.

Allow me to explain through the medium of interpretive dance

This stinks of a publicity campaign.  As Max Clifford once said, "There is no such thing as bad publicity - it is all just publicity" or something similar.

According to the BBC, USADA have confirmed that Armstrong has been added to the list of athletes to be tested out of competition.

Apparently just been denied on Radio 5 in a statement issued by Astana.

What a puzzle.

I think this site first broke the 'story' www.sportsplodder.com/   Doesn't look like a reputable source, does it? Then these people VelocityNation | New York Bike Racing ran it, saying they had an anonymous source. Then Velonews goes with it. Then the mainstream media copy it from Velonews.

If it's all going to be confirmed in Vanity Fair it would have to be written ages before publication - they have a lead time of a couple of months, don't they? So I don't see why Lance would use that sort of magazine to break the story - it's bound to leak. I would have thought he would break it on TV.

Anyway, why on earth would Lance want to cross swords with the French dope testers now that his old EPO samples have come to light?

Having said all that the story has been all over the US media for a day, and Lance hasn't denied it.

According to Cyclingnews:

"Armstrong is reportedly returning to the peloton to undertake a limited racing schedule for 2009"

That's what he did from 1999 to 2005  ::-)

But I think the whole things a beat up anyway

The link I gave you was the first report of it.  All the refutations are as a result of this article.

Sorry old fruit, you're a bit slow off the mark. Somebody at bikeradar saw it at velocitynation and sportsplodder FIVE DAYS before Velonews ran it. Comeback Lance To Sign For Astana? | Race | Road | Forums - BikeRadar

I'd be interested to see what he could do in a 24 hour TT.

Well, it's been confirmed that he's riding for someone, at least, on the Beeb.
